Io Leonardo, the film about Leonardo da Vinci starring Luca Argentero as the genius, is released in Italian cinemas on October 2. The film, produced by Sky with Progetto Immagine, is distributed by Lucky Red (after it is released in theaters, the fim will be put on Sky channels and distributed worldwide by True Colors). A trailer for the film was released today (below).

Io Leonardo also features Francesco Pannofino as the narrator, and the cast also includes Angela Fontana as Cecilia Gallerani (i.e., the famous Lady with an ermine) and Massimo De Lorenzo who plays Ludovico il Moro, Duke of Milan and Leonardo’s important patron. The film was made with the scientific advice of one of the most important experts on Leonardo da Vinci, namely Pietro C. Marani, full professor of Modern Art History and Museology at the Milan Polytechnic. Art direction is by Cosetta Lagani, the script is by Sara Mosetti and Marcello Olivieri. It is directed by Jesus Garces Lambert, former director of Caravaggio - l’anima e il sangue, the most-watched art documentary at the cinema in Italy in 2018 and winner of the Golden Globe.

The film, the presentation reads, is intended to be “a fascinating tale of discovery of the man, the artist, the scientist and the inventor that will take the viewer on an unprecedented and engaging experience into the mind of Leonardo da Vinci, with a new look far removed from stereotypes.” Io Leonardo has received the Patronage of the National Committee for the Celebrations of the 500th Anniversary of the Death of Leonardo da Vinci and the Scientific Committee of the Palimpsest Milano Leonardo 500, as well as the Recognition of the European Year of Cultural Heritage. It also obtained the Patronages of the City of Florence, the City of Milan and the City of Vinci and is produced with the participation of Bosch and the collaboration of the Regional Museum Pole of Lombardy, Artech Digital Cinema, Bottega Tifernate and the Leonardo da Vinci Experience Museum and Aeroporti di Roma.
