Magnum turns 70 and in Turin Camera - Centro Italiano per la Fotografia celebrates it with an exhibition. Other initiatives in Cremona and Brescia.

Magnum, the famous photo agency founded in 1947 by Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, George Rodger and David Seymour, is turning 70 and Camera - Centro Italiano per la fotografia pays tribute to it with the exhibition “L’Italia di Magnum. From Henri Cartier-Bresson to Paolo Pellegrin.” The Turin exhibition is curated by newly appointed director Walter Guadagnini with the collaboration of Arianna Visani and will be open from March 3 to May 21, 2017.

More than two hundred images made by twenty great photographers intended to recount events, personalities and places in Italy from the postwar period to the present. From a tribute to Henri Cartier-Bresson and his trip to Italy in the 1930s to two extraordinary photographic series by Robert Capa and David Seymour: the first dedicated to the end of World War II, the second presents the tourists who returned to visit the Sistine Chapel in 1947. The exhibition continues with Rome recounted by Elliott Erwitt, Cinecittà presented by Herbert List, Cassius Clay’s victory at the 1960 Rome Olympics immortalized by Thomas Hoepker, the contrast between the beauty of the places and the bad taste of new visitors shown by Martin Parr, to arrive, finally, at Mark Power ’s sequence of images with the symbolic places of Italy.

The catalog is published by Silvana Editoriale.

In Italy, Magnum’s 70th anniversary is also being celebrated in Cremona and Brescia with a series of events, initiatives and exhibitions.
