The Fondazione Palazzo Te is offering the fifth edition of I Gonzaga digitali on November 23 and 24, 2018: two days of study to analyze the fashion of the Gonzaga court.

On November 23 and 24, 2018, the fifth edition of"I Gonzaga digitali" dedicated to fashion will be held in theState Archives of Mantua. Two days of studies, curated by Marco Carlo Belfanti and Daniela Sogliani, that will expose the outcomes of aresearch activity conducted on the correspondence, registers and inventories preserved at the State Archives, all digitized and freely accessible thanks to the portal Banche Dati Gonzaga.

The purchasing and consumption dynamics of luxury goods, fashion and costume of the Gonzaga court studied through textiles, intermediary accessories, artisans and places.



Particularly highlighted is the figure of Isabella d’Este, a sort of ante litteram influencer, who imposed her own taste by means of dolls dressed in clothes created by herself and through relationships with factories of precious fabrics. Luxury production centers were Milan, Venice, Rome and Florence.

The conference"The Gonzaga and Fashion between Mantua and Europe" will be attended by leading experts in the history of costume: Barbara Bettoni (University of Brescia), Maria Giuseppina Muzzarelli (University of Bologna), Bruna Niccoli (University of Pisa), Roberta Orsi Landini (historian of textiles and costume, Florence), Elisa Tosi Brandi (University of Bologna) and Federica Veratelli (University of Parma).

On Friday, November 23, 2018, at 4 p.m., during the conference, the public will be able to visit the rooms of the Ducal Palace free of charge to admire, with the speakers, theattire of court portraits in paintings such as RubensHoly Trinity altarpiece, Suttermans ’ portrait of Vincenzo II Gonzaga and Lucrina Fetti’s portrait of Eleonora Gonzaga.
