On the occasion of Paper Sunday, anextraordinary opening of the National Library of Naples is scheduled forOct. 11 under the banner of Dante and Leopardi. From the Reading Room with stucco and gold decorations to the historic frescoed halls, destined by the Bourbons as Ballrooms, guided tours will lead the public through history and memory. Precious manuscripts, autographs, engravings, illuminated manuscripts, illuminated manuscripts, rare texts, significant specimens of the rich heritage kept in the Neapolitan library will be on display in the Rare Room. And from the terraces they will be able to enjoy a splendid view of the Bay of Naples.

There will be an opportunity to admire some of Giacomo Leopardi’s autographs, such as the moving letters written to his father and mother, which emphasize the poet’s most intimate and private dimension. In ’the year of Dante’s celebrations, a manuscript rich in pen drawings is also on view, where the most salient episodes of the Divine Comedy are recounted in images: this is a precious illuminated codex belonging to the Library’s collections, chosen to offer a significant testimony to the history of medieval Italian illumination.

Admission to the Naples National Library is free of charge with hours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; reservations are required and access will be secured in small groups.
