Siena International Photo Awards: the 4th edition arrives

From Oct. 28 to Dec. 2, 2018, the Siena International Photo Awards, now in its fourth edition, will return. The main exhibition of the event will be called “Beyond the Lens” and will be held inside the former distillery "Lo Stellino," a new space with an industrial character inaugurated for the occasion, while the Basilica of San Domenico complex will host "Sky’s the limit," the first group show realized in Italy on aerial photography, with a selection among the most beautiful works awarded at the "Drone Awards."

The 2018 edition of SIPA will make use of the new exhibition venue of the Logge del Papa, a 15th-century architecture of arches and vaults, which will host outside the photograph of a mother seeking temporary shelter for her child, part of the reportage "Refugee Stream," with which Danish photographer Jacob Ehrbahn won the 2016 edition of the Siena International Photo Awards. The installation will also display the most beautiful images awarded in the section reserved for young people Under 20.

As for the main event of SIPA, 143 images of 48 photographers from 37 different countries, divided into ten thematic categories, who sent their work to the award secretariat will be exhibited, and the award ceremony will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at 5:30 p.m. at the Teatro dei Rozzi in Siena.

Luca Venturi, creator and artistic director of the festival, explains, “It is an important path that we took a few years ago to link a city like Siena, unique for its history and beauty, to a festival dedicated to photography and a photography award, the Siena International Photo Awards. In four years we have created an appointment awaited and appreciated by an audience not only Italian. This success is confirmed by the numbers and prominence of internationally renowned professionals who have chosen to participate in our project and places us today among the great photography awards. And we are happy that in this dream of ours has found from the very beginning the support and enthusiasm of the city’s public institutions and private partners without whom this adventure could not have begun.”

Accompanied by an Art Photo Travel editions catalog, the event will also feature an exhibition of photographs by Pulitzer Prize and multiple World Press Photo winners, reportage by some of National Geographic’s most famous photographers, meetings with authors, workshops and discussions.
