Throughout the month of September, you can get to know Florence... from above: the city’s towers and gates will reopen to the public. Starting Friday, Sept. 4, Torre San Niccolò will be open to the public every week from Friday to Monday from 4 to 7 p.m., while from Saturday, Sept. 5, at the same time, Porta Romana (Saturday 5 and Saturday 19) and Torre della Zecca (Saturday 12 and Saturday 26) will also be open to the public on alternate Saturdays.
It will thus be possible to delve into the history of these monuments, their characteristics and functions as well as learn about their relationship with the medieval and contemporary city, while also enjoying wonderful panoramic views of Florence.
The initiative is part of a project to give back to the public a significant chapter of the city’s history; a kind of diffuse museum that strongly connotes the image of the historic center.
Guided tours are curated by the Florentine Civic Museums and MUS. E and ì, ages 8 and up, are open to all, with mandatory reservations to be made by calling 055-2768224 or writing to info@muse.comune.fi.it.
Each visit will cost 6 euros per person and payment must be made in cash at the site of the visit. Participation is free for children under 18, Florentine Card holders, disabled and accompanying persons, tour guides and interpreters, and ICOM, ICOMOS and ICCROM members.
