Salento has a comic book festival, with cosplay, cinema and video games

On Aug. 30 and 31, the streets of Salice Salentino in Lecce will host the second edition of Salicomix, a comic book festival with events and shows, not to mention cosplay. Well-known voice actors and TV faces will be present.

After the success of last year’s edition, the Salicomix Volume II festival returns to Salice Salentino, an exhibition event that combines cosplay, cinema, comics and video games. On August 30 and 31, the center of the town in the province of Lecce will come alive with artists, cosplayers, illustrators, lovers of the fantasy world and more. During the two days, the program includes creative workshops by Magischola, where participants can try their hand at preparing magical potions inspired by the world of Harry Potter. In addition, it will be possible to admire the Robots of Wasama Creative Factory, veterans of the recent success at Italia’s Got Talent. Special live drawing appointment inside Salicomix is with Micaela Ingrosso and Shanaru, who will create portraits of two live cosplayers. In parallel, the L’Angolo del Fumetto booth will organize a card tournament dedicated to fans of the genre. Representing the literary component of comix will be Liberrima Bookstore, an essential reference point for readers in and around Lecce. There will also be game simulators by Apulia Gaming, for a complete gaming experience. In the expo area, in addition to stands with exclusive products, there will be Atemà with its innovative proposal that combines sushi with Mediterranean flavors and an evocative Zen corner curated by Mater Bonsai and Daniele Micocci, set up in the cloister of the Madonna della Visitazione Convent.

Also participating will be the Lecce Biblio-Museum Pole, theLeda Association and theLecce Academy of Fine Arts with two exhibitions entitled Fumetto Verticale and Fumetto in Valigia, accompanied by a debate on the evolution of comics. The Fumetto Verticale exhibition, presented at the festival, aims to raise awareness and bring villagers closer to the world of comics. The billboards of Salice Salentino’s central areas will be transformed into public art spaces, displaying comic works by five young authors selected by the Academy. The creations, conceived as site-specific, are inspired by the theme “The Spell of Salento.” Five authors and students led by Enrico Rollo, lecturer of the Comic Art course at ABA Lecce, and Donata Bologna, designer of the Lecce Biblio-Museum Pole, who coordinated the project, were chosen for the exhibition. There will also be space for Giada Bessi, who will talk about the evolution of the Final Fantasy saga.

Salicomix will also host three of the most famous voices in the world of cartoon dubbing. During the two days Stefano Mondini (voice of Principal Skinner in The Simpsons), Gianluca Iacono (voice of Vegeta in Dragonball) and Elisabetta Spinelli (voice of Sailor Moon) will in fact be available to meet the public at the dedicated meet & greet booth. There is great anticipation for the meeting and interactive show Contemporary Art Attacks by Giovanni Mucciaccia, scheduled for Aug. 30. The festival will conclude with cosplay competitions for juniors and seniors, followed by the Hypergalactics concert. The Salicomix soundtrack is also an original composition by composer Francesco Persano, soon to be available on digital stores. Salicomix was the inspiration of entertainment councillor Valentina Capoccia, creator and director of the event since its first edition. It is organized in collaboration with the Salic’è association , Proloco Salice Salentino and local businesses.

“We strongly believe in events of art and culture intended for and fully experienced by young people, in which many different realities participate and merge into a wonderful rainbow of activities. Last year our Salicomix was a success and we are confident in this second edition,” says Mayor Cosimo Leuzzi.

“I am really excited,” says Councillor Valentina Capoccia, “to bring an event of this caliber to the area, with outstanding guests and an interesting program. Of great prestige will be the contribution of the Lecce biblio-museum pole, the academy of fine arts and the Leda association. I am even happier to have with me a group of young people who have dedicated an entire year, with passion and commitment, to the realization of the event. Everyone has contributed significantly and with their skills, and this will benefit the area. We will have booths, participants in cosplay competitions and, we hope, also visitors from all parts of Italy. An excellent showcase for our Salice.”
