Royal Marathon and Royal Walks return: discover the Royal Residences of the House of Savoy in group sporting events

The Consortium of Royal Residences of Savoy is again promoting the Royal Stage Marathon and Royal Walks this year. The aim is to invite the public to take in the architectural and natural beauty of Piedmont at group sporting events.

Once again this year, the Consortium of the Royal Residences of Savoy is promoting the organization of the Royal Marathon in stages and the Royal Walks, two initiatives that are aimed at an increasingly large and aware public with respect to the themes of seeking wellness, movement, and recreation for a better quality of life in sustainable ways. The aim is to invite the public to take in the architectural and natural beauty of the region at the occasion of group sporting events. The Royal Marathon in stages is designed and organized by Base running in four routes that will take place between April and October; four routes also for the Royal Walks, organized directly by the Consortium of Royal Savoy Residences between March and October. The appointment is therefore for all enthusiasts and those who want to experience this different approach to discovering cultural heritage for the first time.

The traditional 42.195 kilometers of the Royal Marathon will be divided into four stages.

STAGE 1: It starts on April 14 at 8:30 a.m. with the LA MEZZA DI TORINO and LA DIECI DI TORINO now in its ninth edition. The two races will start and finish on Via Roma near Piazza Castello and then the Royal Palace and Palazzo Madama. On the sidelines of the first event will also be the School Run, dedicated to children from 0 to 14 years old: on Saturday, April 13 from 2:30 p.m., the little runners will have the opportunity to run in Piazza San Carlo following the route of a simulated athletic track.

STAGE 2: On May 19, it will be the turn of TUTTADRITTA, 19th edition, starting in Piazza San Carlo and arriving on the gravel road of the Palazzina di Caccia di Stupinigi. As if to retrace the route of the Savoys who used to reach the Juvarra’s palace from Porta Nuova for the hunting season.

STAGE 3: After the summer break, the third stage will take place on Sept. 15 in the province of Cuneo and will have the Castle of Racconigi as an exceptional setting. The distance will be 12.195Km and runners will have the unique opportunity to race inside the majestic gardens of the holiday residence of the Savoy royal family.

ROUND 4: The conclusion is on October 13 with the 12th edition of the Run for Kings at the Palace of Venaria and the Royal Castle and Village of La Mandria Nature Park. Runners can choose to run the 10Km distance, or participate in the 21Km to conclude the Royal Marathon format. In addition, two other distances will be proposed: the 30Km for runners who would then like to support the more classic autumn marathons and the 4km for all walkers to run with family members and why not with four-legged friends. The routes, as per tradition, will start from the Gardens of the Reggia di Venaria and then enter the La Mandria Natural Park, pass through the Borgo Reale and the Castello della Mandria and the streets immersed in the nature of the largest enclosed park in Europe, and finally return to the scenic proscenium of the Gran Parterre Juvarriano of the Reggia, with the Galleria Grande and the Scuderie Juvarriane acting as a grandiose backdrop to the arrival of thousands of runners. The aim is to “tell the story” of the system of the Royal Residences of Turin and Piedmont through an event that merges sport and culture, combining cultural visitation with wellness, thanks to the reduced mileage of each stage, suitable even for less experienced and trained runners. All information, registration methods, stage routes and regulations are available on the event’s official website www.maratonareale.it.

The Camminate Reali (Royal Walks ) program was created with the intention of creating over time the Via dei Re (Route of the Kings), a structured walk that would enhance the system of Piedmont’s sixteen Savoy Royal Residences and their pertinent territory (Turin, Canavese, and Cuneo valleys) in a tourist way. The initiative is organized by the Consortium of the Royal Sabaudian Residences in collaboration with the Fondation Ordine Mauriziano, the Royal Parks Protected Areas Management Board, and the various municipalities and entities involved, with contributions also for 2024 from the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation.
