On the first Sunday of the month, Sunday, September 5, 2021,free admission to Rome’s civic museums returns. The initiative, promoted by Roma Culture, Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali, will allow all visitors, residents and non-residents alike, free access to the museum venues, with the exception of the Capitoline Museums and the archaeological area of the Imperial Fora, which are closed on Sunday 5 and Monday 6 for security reasons related to an international institutional event.
Instead, it is possible to visit the archaeological area of the Circus Maximus, according to the scheduled hours, from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., with last entry at 5:50 p.m.
Below are the Roman civic museums that can be visited for free on this date only: the Mercati di Traiano - Museo dei Fori Imperiali, the Ara Pacis Museum, the Centrale Montemartini, the Museo di Roma, the Museo di Roma in Trastevere, the Galleria d’Modern Art, the Museums of Villa Torlonia, the Civic Museum of Zoology, the Giovanni Barracco Museum of Ancient Sculpture, the Carlo Bilotti Museum - Villa Borghese Orangery, the Napoleonic Museum, the Pietro Canonica Museum in Villa Borghese, the Museum of the Roman Republic and Garibaldian Memory, the Museum of Casal de’ Pazzi, the Museum of the Walls, and the Villa of Maxentius.
In addition to their permanent collections, the civic museums allow visits to the many current temporary exhibitions.
