On April 21, on the occasion of Christmas in Rome, Bulgari’s historic boutique on Via Condotti is hosting ten works by Giacomo Balla. The event, organized in collaboration with the “Futurism&Co” Art Gallery, is also intended to celebrate at the same time the 150th anniversary of the birth of the Turin-based artist.
Balla and Bulgari are linked to the city of Rome: the former moved here in 1895, while a year earlier Sotirio Bulgaru had opened his boutique in Via Condotti. Balla lived in the area between Villa Borghese and the Roman countryside. When Sotirio Bulgari died in 1932, the running of the boutique passed to his sons Giorgio and Costantino, and it was with the latter that Balla’s daughter Elica came into contact in 1961. The painter’s daughter made a pastel portrait of Costantino Bulgari in his Roman home.
In the Promenade, a scenic corridor of the boutique, Expansion of Spring will be on display; in the Taylor Sitting Room, where Elizabeth Taylor often took refuge during the filming of the movie Cleopatra, Speed Line + Sky + Noise will be on view. Other works on display include Sunday Rifle Shot and Insidies of War.
