Kicking off the third edition of Ro.Me Museum Exhibition, an international fair on museums, cultural places and destinations, to be held Nov. 25-27, 2020): this year it will be entirely digital. Through the website romemuseumexhibition.com, museums, cultural institutions, companies and professionals will have the opportunity to visit the fair in a 3D environment, organize B2B meetings and watch the meetings via streaming.
Eighty national and international companies will be involved in the digital fair, exhibiting and showcasing their products and solutions during these days: from museum merchandising to creative and cultural enterprises, from exhibit design to immersive projects through virtual and augmented reality, from visitor services to exhibition and collection management. The business showcase is set up thanks to the contribution of the Lazio Region, Unioncamere Lazio and the Rome Chamber of Commerce. Opening Ro.Me Museum Exhibition will be the inaugural conference with Italian museum directors organized by the MiBACT’s General Directorate for Museums, which this year addresses the theme Networked museums between digital innovation and social inclusion, proposing a reflection on the theme of the new role of the museum in the emergent phase, focusing on digital innovation on the one hand and social inclusion mechanisms on the other, with particular reference to territorial networks, the National Museum System and IT and digital networks. Speakers will include Marco Pierini, director of the National Gallery of Umbria; Antonio Calabrò, president of Museimpresa, the Italian Association of Archives and Enterprise Museums; and Deborah Agostino, director of the Osservatorio Innovazione Digitale nei Beni e Attività Culturali (Digital Innovation in Cultural Heritage and Activities Observatory) of the Politecnico di Milano. This will be followed by a panel discussion with the director of the British Museum Hartwig Fischer, the director of the Musée de l’Orangerie in Paris Cécile Debray, and MiBACT’s General Director of Museums Massimo Osanna. Advocacy, content, and governance of museums in the post-pandemic will discuss strategies, projects, and tools to address the paradigm shift facing the sector.
Several special events are scheduled, such as theEvent on Creative and Cultural Enterprises Related to Museums and Cultural Tourism Chains, which will be attended by Anna Laura Orrico, Undersecretary of MiBACT, Roberto Vellano, Central Director for the Promotion of Italian Culture and Language of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Paolo Orneli Assessore of the Lazio Region, Carlo Cafarotti, Assessore of Roma Capitale, Invitalia, the Fondazione Scuola dei Beni e delle Attività Culturali and the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo. The event on creative and cultural enterprises will be introduced by Keynote “Reimagining Return - New Models post-COVID?” by Steven Wolff, president and founder of AMS Planning & Research Corp among the best-known operators and investors in the U.S. art & entertainment sector, produced in collaboration with the Embassy of the United States of America in Italy, During theevent will be accessible a showcase of cultural and creative companies with their products and services, such as artificial intelligence applied to the art sector, augmented reality, digitalization, architecture, design, innovative project, cloud computing, IoT and analytics, and gamefication.
Eike Schmidt and Mario De Simoni will discuss new paradigms related to the planning, organization and enjoyment of exhibitions in the postpandemic, starting with the case of the exhibition Raphael. 1520-1483.
To promote the National Museum System, the fair has designed a Virtual Experience on sixteen Italian museums: Villa Giustiniani, Palazzo Altieri, Andersen Museum, State Archaeological Museum of Acervia, State Archaeological Museum of Ascoli Piceno, National Museum and Archaeological Area of Altino, Palazzo Ducale of Gubbio, National Archaeological Museums of Orvieto and Necropolis of the Crucifix of Tufo, National Archaeological Museum of Canosa di Puglia - Sinesi Palace, Archaeological Museum of Pontecagnano, National Archaeological Museum of Eboli and the Middle Sele Valley, National Gallery of Cosenza, National Archaeological Museum and Park of Scolacium, Archaeological Museum of Mètauros, Samnite Museum, and Archaeological Museum and Park of Venosa. Through this tour, the museums and sites identified in collaboration with the Regional Directorates will present a user experience on their permanent collections.
Anabsolute novelty of this edition will be the Fondazione Santagata award given by a jury of experts to a sustainable development project implemented or initiated within a territory or community with UNESCO designation on the national territory.
The second edition of TEMM [Traveling Exhibition Meeting & Marketplace] will focus on the role of traveling exhibitions in supporting museums, exhibition spaces and exhibition producers to overcome the emergency caused by COVID-19. The program is divided into three specialized workshops: Digitization and Web Strategy by Sarah Dominique Orlandi, Museums and Digitization in the COVID-19 Emergency by Silvia Stabile, and Planning, Scheduling, Digitization: The Keys to Optimizing the Logistical Budget of a Travelling Exhibition by Arterìa.
National and international institutions and practitioners will discuss strategies, content, and experiences in fostering the accessibility of museum, archival and library collections and collections, intellectual property and copyright.
