Rimini: New Year's Eve is celebrated in squares but also in museums

From Dec. 29 to Jan. 1, Rimini hosts more than 50 hours of festivities: Vinicio Capossela, Elio e le Storie Tese, Irene Grandi. Also involved are museums with parties and special openings.

Rimini is preparing to celebrate its now traditional “World’s Longest New Year’s Eve” with an extraordinary program spanning 50 hours of festivities from Dec. 29 to Jan. 1: museums will be the stars of the evening, as some parties will be held in the city’s own museums. A unique event in Italy, combining great artists, music, culture and entertainment to welcome the new year in a mix of energy and magic.

“We are experimenting with a variation on a successful format,” comments the Mayor of Rimini, Jamil Sadegholvaad, “proposing what is to all intents and purposes an integrated tourist package, also with the other municipalities of the Riviera, offering unique things to do and have fun for several days. Practically a very long weekend that ferries towards the New Year among great artists, shows and open museums: an opportunity to tell our vocation as an attractive destination capable of offering unique proposals in a special context such as the redeveloped historic center, in a city dressed up for the vacations among sand cribs, ice rinks and a thousand opportunities to diversify the vacation for several days.”

A New Year’s Eve to be experienced in three acts

Opening the dancing will be Irene Grandi on December 29. The singer-songwriter, one of the best-loved voices of Italian pop, will take the stage to retrace her greatest hits in a concert that promises excitement and involvement.

The party continues on Dec. 30 with the return of Elio e le Storie Tese, the masters of parody and improvisation, ready to overwhelm the audience with their ironic and irreverent repertoire. Cult songs such as La terra dei cachi and Servi della gleba will be the protagonists of an explosive evening of music and comedy.

The grand finale will be in the hands of Vinicio Capossela on Dec. 31. With his show Tanned for the Holidays, Capossela will bring to the stage a unique blend of music, storytelling and theatricality, combining irony and reflection. The evening will culminate with the extraordinary spectacle of the Fire at the Castle, a moment of pure magic amid fireworks and light games in Malatesta Square.

Seven parties in one night: December 31 in Rimini

New Year’s Eve will be an explosion of music and fun with seven simultaneous events that will transform Rimini’s historic center into a large, diffuse stage.

In Piazza Malatesta, Vinicio Capossela, as anticipated will be the undisputed star, but the last night of 2024 in Rimini will have six other venues: Piazza Cavour will host the Discoradio Party, with RDS DJs and infectious energy that will get the audience dancing to hits from the 1990s to today. Teatro Galli will transform its Sala Ressi into a Cotton Club-style jazz club, thanks to a collaboration with the Rimini Jazz Club and dancers from The Stompers school. Here, audiences will be able to immerse themselves in the vintage atmosphere of swing, with Lindy Hop dancing and live music.

At the Teatro degli Atti, the focus will be on Latin American culture with Panamericana, a show that mixes Caribbean and South American rhythms with engaging costumes and dances. For classical music lovers, the art toast at the City Museum will offer a performance by the EoS String Quartet with pieces from Bach to Led Zeppelin, while at the Surgeon’s Domus, acoustic music can be heard in an intimate and evocative atmosphere. Finally, the night will also come alive in the garden ofthe Museum’s Modern Wing with a vertical DJ set by Acido Domingo, which combines electronic music and enhancement of the area.

Art and culture at the heart of the festival

Not only music and dancing: Rimini also focuses on art and culture. At the Palazzo del Fugor it will be possible to participate by becoming the protagonist of a special photographic portrait by photographer Enrico De Luigi (10 p.m. to night, free admission). Christmas lights, art installations and a festive atmosphere will make the historic center a magical place to stroll, amidst evocative views and events celebrating creativity.

The courtyard of the Gambalunga Library will welcome New Year’s wanderers with a site-specific installation, and all museums (Fulgor Palace, Galli Theater, Domus and City Museum) will be open for free starting at 9 p.m.

The festivities do not end with the stroke of midnight. Rimini continues its bill of events with opera, inaugurating 2025 with Gaetano Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore. The opera will be staged at Teatro Galli on January 1, 2 and 4, under the direction of Maestro Stefano Giaroli. A production involving the City of Rimini Opera Chorus and the Terre Verdi Symphony Orchestra, to start the year under the banner of tradition and beauty.

Rimini’s New Year’s Eve is thus intended to be a total experience that celebrates life, art and community. Whether one is a music lover, art enthusiast or simply looking for a good time, Rimini welcomes with a rich and varied program where music and art take center stage.
