On Sunday, November 14, the Hoka Marathon Ravenna City of Art, an event that entered the network of UNESCO-sponsored marathons last year, returns. The Ravenna Marathon is one of the most important running events nationwide and every year attracts runners and companions to the city of mosaics who wish to spend a weekend of sports, culture and tourism.
“With the Regional Directorate of Museums Emilia-Romagna, we began to join the event starting in 2018,” says Sandra Manara, director of the Mausoleum and Palace of Theodoric, “appreciating the transversal aspect of this initiative, which in the perspective of enhancing the precious constellation of monuments in the city of Ravenna combines the sports aspect with the cultural one.”
From competitive races such as the Marathon (42.195 km) and the Half Marathon (21.097 km) to non-competitive races such as the Good Morning Ravenna (10.5 km), the Conad Family Run (2 km), the Dogs&Run (2 km) and the Correndo Senza Frontiere (2 km): there are several routes scheduled, some of which are scheduled the day before the official event. The routes will all take place within the city, except for the marathon, which will go as far as the gates of Punta Marina Terme, and will touch on Unesco monuments by running through the heart of Ravenna for a dive into Byzantine history.
"Through the extraordinary opening of the Theodoric sites,“ concludes director Manara, ”namely the Mausoleum of Theodoric, a Unesco site since 1996, and the Palace of Theodoric, a lesser-known but very important place in the history of Ravenna Capital, we want to contribute again this year to enrich the route of the Marathon. Apart from the 2020 break for the pandemic, in fact this event has aroused a growing interest from the citizenry and beyond, and we are honored to make known to an ever-growing public the treasures we hold for the entire community.
Just on the occasion of the marathon, from November 12 to 14, the Mausoleum of Theodoric and the Palace of Theodoric will be open to the public with the following hours:
Mausoleum of Theodoric - Friday, Nov. 12 and Saturday, Nov. 13 from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm; Sunday, Nov. 14 from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm. Regular rate 4 euros. Ticket office closing and last admission half an hour before actual closing time.
