Osimo is dressed in contemporary with PopUp! Festival 2020. The protagonists will be Agostino Iacurci, Broken Fingaz, Giorgio Bartocci, and Allegra Corbo, internationally renowned artists who will visually and artistically rewrite urban spaces and unconventional places in the city; thirty contemporary Italian artists will also be involved in temporary installations.
Now in its fifth edition, PopUp! Festival is conceived and produced by PopUp Studio with the support of the Municipality of Osimo and co-financing from the Marche Region.
There are several works that visitors can discover in the Osimo area. It starts with Self Protection. Liquid Architecture No. 10 by Giorgio Bartocci, a mural painting created on the four facades of an industrial shed on State Road 16. The dilation, dynamism, overlapping of forms, the use of forty-five shades of color chosen and sampled by the artist, the metallic hues that refract light allow the work to change appearance over 24 hours, make Bartocci’s work a monumental environmental intervention capable of engaging and playing with our visual perception.
Allegra Corbo created in the Padre Bambozzi nursing home The First Molecule, a work created by also involving the facility’s guests. The project began last fall with a workshop held by the artist, during which the elderly, some over 100 years old, resurrected their “green” memories (the gardens and vegetable gardens of childhood, the trees from which they ate the fruits, the flowers of their loved one) and returned them with various artistic techniques, such as drawing, watercolor, cut-out, blockprint). After the lockdown in August, the artist created a mural work reproducing those images in an imaginative collage, a visionary garden where Nature meets remembrance. The work is inspired by Matisse’s cut-outs.
Until Oct. 15, the Israeli collective Broken Fingaz has a virtual presence in Osimo with a blow-up of one of its works, installed on the scaffolding at the construction site of the former Cinema Concerto.
The public can also walk through the Street Gallery: an outdoor exhibition, along Corso Mazzini and under the municipal arcades, featuring forty works by thirty contemporary Italian artists who investigate and narrate the emotions experienced during the quarantine.
Finally, with his unmistakable poetics, Agostino Iacurci will intervene in a strategic place in the historic center of Osimo, delivering to the city an ’important site-specific environmental installation.
Simultaneously with PopUp! Festival, the Keith Haring exhibition Made in New York, curated by Gianluca Marziani and organized by the Municipality of Osimo in the exhibition spaces of Palazzo Campana, can be visited until Jan. 10, 2021.
