From Oct. 30 to Nov. 3, 2019, the Plart Foundation will be among the protagonists of Paratissima with a Special Project hosted in the courtyard of theformer Artillery Academy, which this year will host the international fair of independent artists: three column-trees made by artist Marcello Cinque with a special white anti-smog cement that can counter pollution. These are intended to make people reflect on nature and the element of the column as a fundamental feature of our culture.
Cinque’sinstallation perfectly sums up the vision of the Plart Foundation in its decades of activity in Naples, namely the union of past and future to contribute to a better world through the preservation and display of significant works, cultural experimentation and innovation through constant research work, and the use of technology.
“I like to think of the work as an artificial satellite to meet scientific needs, traveling through space and time to activate a confrontation that becomes a creative reaction. The tree-columns are a visual game, in which new material technologies and the harmonic forms of nature come together, becoming powerful allies of contemporary cities,” explained Marcello Cinque himself.
A work that also aims to recompose a sustainable balance with the environment, thanks to the innovative smog-eating material, TX Active®, developed in Italcementi’s research and innovation center.
“TX Active® represents an active form of fighting pollution. The combined action of light and TX Active neutralizes pollutants produced by human activity with factory operations, traffic or home heating, restoring better air quality. Coating a 1,000-square-meter surface with TX Active® is equivalent to planting 80 evergreen trees or eliminating 30 gasoline-powered vehicles,” said Enrico Borgarello, Director of Product Innovation at Italcementi-HeidelbergCement.
Marcello Cinque (Ottaviano, 1968) is dedicated to experimenting with new materials. The peculiar texture of sculpture perfectly reproduces the impression of the floating of matter, and in each work he disrupts the relationship between volume and weight. A journey of sign and form through space and time. Layering and transformations of time become for the artist elements of investigation for a work that evolves in materials and forms to create new balances.
With this installation, the Plart Foundation is preparing to open its new museum and multimedia space dedicated to design, art and innovation in spring 2020.
