Notre-Dame six months later. Meeting at Palazzo Farnese with the architects of the historic cathedral's construction site.

On Monday, Oct. 21, 2019, an exceptional meeting will be held in Palazzo Farnese, Rome, to take stock of Notre Dame's work.

OnMonday, October 21, 2019, at 6:30 p.m., a meeting with Charlotte Hubert and Carlo Biasi will be held at Palazzo Farnese in Rome to take stock of the work to secure Notre-Dame Cathedral.

It has been about six months since the fire that devastated the historic cathedral, and in an exceptional event, since communication on the progress of the Notre-Dame construction site has so far been subject to the rules of absolute confidentiality by insiders, there will be an opportunity to hear from two protagonists, two architects who have been present on the construction site of the famous cathedral from the beginning. The initiative is organized by Institut Français Italia (Palazzo Farnese is the headquarters of the French Embassy in Rome) and held as part of the Farnese Dialogues.

During the meeting, specific methods and techniques for the restoration of fragile buildings will be presented and an attempt will be made to understand the complex operations needed by a particular structure such as Notre-Dame. Charlotte Hubert, president of the company of Chief Architects of Historic Monuments, who was part of the prime contractor team for the restoration during the first four months and was the spokesperson for the work, will address the topic by recounting the urgent phase of the beginning of the construction site; Carlo Blasi, on the other hand, will address the aspect of the issues posed after the crisis situation to date, with safety issues and pre-diagnosis. In addition, Bernardino Chiaia, an engineer, professor of Construction Science at the Polytechnic University of Turin and director of the SISCON (Safety of Infrastructures and Constructions) center at the Polytechnic, will analyze the issue of fire resistance of structures.

The meeting is a unique opportunity to gain a close understanding of the complex reality of rebuilding one of the world’s cultural heritage symbols.
