Night walks in the Archaeological Park of Pompeii

Until August 26, every Friday evening, night walks in Pompeii Archaeological Park return.

Night walks in Pompeii Archaeological Park are back. Until Aug. 26, every Friday evening (except Friday, Aug. 12) from 8 to 11 p.m. (last entry 10 p.m.) it will be possible to walk in Pompeii Archaeological Park, accompanied by a sound path from Porta Marina to the Forum and art projections at the Basilica. The initiative is part of the contemporary art project Pompeii Commitment. Archaeological Matters.

The route starts from Porta Marina and takes visitors to themonumental area of the Civil Forum, illuminated thanks to Enel Sole: the area is overlooked by all the main public buildings for the administration of the city and justice, for the management of business, for commercial activities, such as markets, as well as the main places of city worship.

Visitors will be accompanied by a sound art intervention created by Invernomuto (Simone Bertuzzi and Simone Trabucchi), which, starting with the work Black Med, POMPEII made thanks to the support of Italian Council (7th edition, 2019), a project of the General Directorate for Contemporary Creativity, upon presentation by Fondazione Morra Greco and becoming part of the Park’s new contemporary art collection. A sound installation that intercepts, collects and composes together the sound trajectories that cross the complex and stratified area of the Mediterranean.

Instead, 79 A.D., a video by artist Giovanna Silva, in collaboration with Giacomo Bianco, will be projected on the Basilica’s inner side wall. A selection of about ninety photographic images taken during the pandemic and published within her two contributions (Commitment and Inventory) for the portal www.pompeiicommitment.org in May 2021. An unexpected account of a Pompeii deprived of its visitors and its volcano. These also document Pompeii’s four deposits (Boscoreale, Terme Femminili, Granai del Foro, Casa Bacco), normally closed to the public.

The tour closes with a visit to theAntiquarium, a 19th-century building that houses a museum space dedicated to the permanent exhibition of artifacts illustrating the history of Pompeii. The exit is planned from Piazza Esedra.

Evening admission is at a cost of 5 euros. Access will be allowed to a maximum of 1,500 people, distributed over time slots (500 every hour). Online purchase at www.ticketone.it is recommended.
