Night of the Muses in Locri: the Sarcophagus of the Muses from the Roman era will be on display

On July 25, 2019 at 9 p.m., the Sarcophagus of the Muses, on loan until September, will be presented at Locri National Archaeological Park.

On Thursday, July 25, 2019, at 9 p.m., the Sarcophagus of the Muses will be presented in Locri (Reggio Calabria) at the Casino Macrì Museum Complex of the Locri National Archaeological Park. The event will be organized by Rossella Agostino, director of the Locri Museums, and Sara De Angelis, director of the Agro Falisco-Forte Sangallo Archaeological Museum, who will present the Roman-era artifact. This will be on display from July to September in Locri, as part of an exchange between Polo museale del Lazio, directed by Edith Gabrielli, and Polo museale della Calabria, directed by Antonella Cucciniello.

Through the sarcophagus, among the works made available by the Lazio Museum Pole, it is intended to remind the public that twomarble sarcophagi, both on display in the Archaeological Park, were found in the Locri area: the sarcophagus from contrada Saletta in Locri, of Caius Octavianus Crescens dating back to the 2nd century AD.C. dedicated by his wife to her deceased husband, and the sarcophagus from contrada Salice di Ardore from the 3rd century A.D. with a central male draped bust and figure of a shepherd behind whom a ram can be seen, a work probably imported from Rome on commission.
