Opening in Sesto San Giovanni (Milan), the Next Museum, a fully multimedia, immersive and technological space, opens with an immersive exhibition entirely dedicated to Gustav Klimt, the major exponent of the Viennese Secession. From October 21, 2023 to January 28, 2024, it will indeed host KLIMT - The Gold Experience, an international production curated by Next Exhibition, in collaboration with Dreams Cultural Association.
Visitors will walk through five main areas for a multi-sensory, family-friendly experience.
It starts with the timeline, to give the audience an understanding of the most salient facts that conditioned Klimt’s life and art. This will be followed by the impressive immersive area of more than 300 square meters where walls, floor and every structural element of the location will vanish to melt into a sea of gold. Using videomapping technology and a high-definition projector system, iconic works such as The Kiss, The Tree of Life, Hope, and The Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer will literally immerse the audience, flooding them with light and embracing them in a golden swirl. The video will be played on a loop and it will be possible to view it several times, from different points of view: standing or comfortably seated on the poufs scattered around the room, becoming an integral part of the scenic picture, lulled by the soundtrack of classical music.
It continues with the virtual reality section (content created in collaboration with Metrohive), optional and with an accessory ticket, which will give visitors the chance to enjoy a unique experience: seeing through Klimt’s eyes, intent on observing the world and drawing inspiration from the landscapes he was most familiar with for his works.
Also present will be an area dedicated to selfie opportunities: The Kiss and The Tree of Life. The organization invites the public to take photos and share their experience at the exhibition on social media, using the official exhibition channels. Finally, before the bookshop area, there will be a large educational workshop where young and old can give free rein to their creative flair and create in the style of Klimt. Once created, the drawing can be scanned and shared, making it visible to all on the screen in the exhibition.
“We are certain,” said Roberto Indiano, founder of Next Exhibition and creative director of the Next Museum project, “that a revolutionary like Klimt would have appreciated the chance to embrace the viewer with his art, to make it come alive by breaking the textures of the canvas. The videomapping presented in the exhibition traces all the different artistic phases, with a focus on the Golden Age, full of magic and enchantment. We have designed an exhibition itinerary that allows the visitor to emotionally understand Klimt in all his nuances as a painter and as a man.”
The immersive exhibition will be open daily: Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
