Everything is ready for the first edition of MAPP - MusicArtProjectPæstum 2019 - the review of events organized by the Paestum Archaeological Park together with theCultural Association Friends of Paestum, in collaboration with Ariadimusica, with the support of the Richard Wagner Associations of Rome, Milan and Ravello, and under the artistic direction of Claudia Bilotti.
The 1st edition of MAPP was born from the desire to rediscover Paestum and the Temples complex as a place privileged by history and the Muses. A “homeland” of art toward which to converge and meet again, under the banner of dialogue between the arts, where the memory of the Grand Tour and the suggestion of the sublime meet the contemporary.
“The novelty that MAPP brings is the creation of a joint cultural idea between the Association of Friends of Paestum and the Paestum Archaeological Park.” stressed Claudia Bilotti, artistic director of the festival, “An initiative strongly desired in the distinctive sign of art, figurative and musical, aimed at making Paestum, in its unique specificity, an attractive center toward which to converge and return.”
The director of the Archaeological Park, Gabriel Zuchtriegel, recalls that "the relationship between music and architecture has a long tradition in Paestum and Magna Graecia, going all the way back to Pythagoras. Aspects such as rhythm, interval, harmony, and the role of ornament open a space of reflection that transcends the boundaries of disciplines, and the temples of Paestum in this have been a point of reference since the time of the Grand Tour."
“The synergy created by the MAPP project,” comments Teresa Giuliani, president of the Friends of Paestum, “between our association and the Paestum Archaeological Park reaffirms the close collaboration that has united them since the association’s inception in 2017. As citizens of the area, and beyond, we feel an integral part of the activities of the archaeological site.”
