FromFebruary 8 to 16, 2025, Modena returns as the capital of fine antiques with the 38th edition of Modenantiquaria, hosted in the spaces of ModenaFiere. The event stands out as a reference point for collectors, designers and antique art lovers, attracting nationally and internationally renowned galleries and an audience from all over Europe every year.
This edition will also host the XXXII edition of Petra, dedicated to decorative arts, and the parallel exhibition Sculptura. Italian Masterpieces from the 13th to the 20th Century, a journey through Italian sculpture that complements and enriches visitors’ experience.
This year’s goal, explains Marco Momoli, CEO of ModenaFiere, “is to further improve on last year’s excellent result, that is, an edition of true excellence with National and International Galleries of great luster and prestige.”
With its 38 editions, Modenantiquaria stands as the antique art exhibition with the most editions in Italy, a record that testifies to its ability to evolve in harmony with social and cultural changes, both at the Italian and European level. Leafing through its catalogs - once paper, now digital - one can see how the antiques market has gone through eras, trends and transformations, adapting to the needs of an increasingly demanding public.
The layout, curated in recent editions by Ruggero Moncada di Paternò, has become one of the pillars of the event, on a par with the quality of the antiquarians who select the rarest objects for months. The quality of the works on display is guaranteed by a vetting committee composed of internationally renowned art historians, who evaluate each piece before it is opened to the public. This ensures not only the value of the works, but also the safety and transparency of the market. “One of the pivotal elements of the exhibition is to give buyers peace of mind,” Marco Momoli continues, “about the quality and authenticity of the works on display. Every single piece, already selected by the prestigious participating Galleries, is then examined and judged by an authoritative Commission of art historians and internationally accredited specialists.”
Sponsored by theAssociazione Antiquari d’Italia and FIMA, the fair also aims to be an opportunity for cultural dialogue. Among its distinctive activities are “talks” that bring together museum directors, historians, journalists and renowned antiquarians. These meetings provide a space to explore cultural and market issues in depth, confirming the fair’s role as a cultural and not just a commercial center.
Unlike other cities, where large exhibitions risk getting lost among the many events, in Modena Modenantiquaria is a ritualistically awaited event. The support of city institutions and the participation of Modena’s antiquarians have created an unbreakable bond between the city and the fair.
The cultural roots of Modena, capital of the Duchy of Este in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, gave rise to an extraordinary artistic tradition, still visible in the works of the Galleria Estense, one of Italy’s most important museums. Modenantiquaria and Modena’s antique dealers stand as heirs to this rich tradition. “To paraphrase a famous phrase by Italo Calvino, an antique has never finished saying what it has to say,” says Pietro Cantore, President of Modenese Antiquarians and Treasurer of the Antiquarian Association of Italy. “One of the questions I am often asked is, why has such an important antiques show taken root in Modena? I have asked myself this many times, and the only plausible answer lies in the strength of the province. Modenantiquaria is an exhibition that lives with and for the city; the same strength and philosophy as TEFAF Maastricht or Art Basel in Basel.”
In fact, for visitors, the exhibition is not only an opportunity to buy, but also a time to learn, be inspired and experience art in all its facets. And Modenantiquaria 2025 promises to be a sure-fire edition.
The following galleries have currently confirmed their participation in the XXXVIII edition of Modenantiquaria: Maurizio Nobile Fine Art, Fondantico di Tiziana Sassoli, Cantore Galleria Antiquaria, Robertaebasta, Carlo Orsi, Altomani & Sons, Gallori Turchi Antichità, Studiolo, Tornabuoni Arte, Iotti, Mirco Cattai, Verdini Antichità, 800 900 ArtStudio, Alice Fine Art, Copetti Antiquari, Antichità all’Oratorio, Antichità La Pieve, Renzo Moroni, Antichità, Maurizio Brandi, Antichità Via Ganaceto, Arcuti Fine Art, Raffaello Pernici, Phidias Antiques, Secol Art di Davide Masoero, Paolo Campopiano, Ars Antiqua, Galleria del Caminetto, Reve Art, Luca Magro, Artstudio Pedrazzini, Asioli Martini, Atelier Du Bois, Attilio Cecchetto Antiquario, Barbieri Antiquariato, Giusti Antichità, , Ossimoro, Bulgarelli Fausto, Bottega d’Art, Butterfly Institute, Ducci dipinti Antichi, ELA Antiques, Enrico Galleria d’ Arte, Enrico Lumina, Fabrizio Fallavena, Galeries De Cicco, Galleria 900, Galleria Arte Cesaro, Conti Caponi, Galleria Camellini, Galleria d’Bentivegna Art, Cinquantasaei Art Gallery, Goldoni Gallery, Giamblanco Gallery, Kalos Gallery, Le Due Torri Gallery, Mason Gallery, San Barnaba Gallery, Maspes Gallery, Antiquities Giglio, I Volpini, Il Mercante Antiquità, Karma Pearls Limited, La Bagatelle, Matheus Gallery, Matta Milani Antiquities, Optima Antiques, Quadreria dell’800, Sa Carpet, Santa Barnaba Gallery, Sine Tempore Studio, Gargiulo Michel, Andrisani Federico, Bertacchi Orfeo Antiquities, G,N Antiquities., Art Decoratif, Art - Fashion, B & Facchini srl.
