The first digital edition of miart, the international modern and contemporary art fair in Milan, organized by Fiera Milano and directed by Alessandro Rabottini, starts today with the “VIP preview.” The preview will continue tomorrow, and then, from September 11 to 13, miart’s online platform will open to everyone. This is an experiment ahead of the 2021 edition, which will be both physical and online.
The 2020 digital edition of miart features more than 130 national and international exhibitors, who have uploaded works for sale on a platform developed by miart in collaboration with Artshell. For this year, therefore, the fair is moving to the Internet, where it will be possible to visit the virtual stands, find out the prices of works (although not all exhibitors have uploaded them), get information about the pieces for sale, download information about the artists, and visit the viewing roomsthematically.
The fair is divided into four major thematic areas (Contemporary, Master, Emergent and Design), reflecting the conceptual architecture characteristic of miart, a fair that is based on the constant dialogue between modern, contemporary, emerging art and collectible design. Galleries have the opportunity to present to the public a wide selection of works for sale alongside a range of multimedia content, related to the gallery’s exhibition activity and the current or past exhibitions, in their own venues and at other institutions, of the artists represented. The new miart digital also offers gallery owners, collectors, art professionals and enthusiasts a direct instant chat, which allows exhibitors and users to enter into a direct dialogue and overcome territorial limits: simply enter the virtual booth, click on the appropriate button and begin the dialogue with the exhibitor. In addition, visitors will be able to access a series of additional fair “insights” and original routes suggested by the curatorial board.
“This innovative format, conceived for the 2020 edition of the fair,” they let the organization know, “is intended to be a demonstration of Fiera Milano’s commitment to supporting the restart not only of the art system but of the entire productive and economic system of Milan, the Lombardy Region and our country. Galleries, artists, museums, fairs and art spaces around the world are experimenting with new ways to reach their audiences, exploring the digital world as a space of proximity. We are witnessing a global effort to transform distance into a form of sharing.”
Also renewed is the support of Fondazione Fiera Milano, which this year is allocating a contribution of 50,000 euros through its namesake Acquisition Fund, demonstrating its willingness to support the market in a concrete way. “In an edition of digital miart that is certainly different from the physical ones we were used to but will nevertheless be able to fulfill every expectation,” explains Enrico Pazzali, president of Fondazione Fiera Milano, "we confirm our commitment to the enhancement of contemporary art through our Acquisition Fund. Fund that over the years has contributed to increasing the value of Fondazione Fiera Milano’s collection, which now has 92 works representing different artistic languages; from painting to sculpture, from film to photography, from drawing to installation. The works are housed in the Palazzina degli Orafi in Largo Domodossola, headquarters of Fondazione Fiera Milano, and are illustrated within the Prospettiva Arte Contemporanea catalog. The Collection of Fondazione Fiera Milano published by Skira. A catalog that ’tells’ the story of a commitment to contemporary creativity through works that have punctuated the path of growth and internationalization experienced by miart in recent years."
Finally, miart confirms its collaboration with Comune di Milano - Cultura by dedicating a section of the platform to Milano Art Week, which will be held in various city venues from September 7 to 13, 2020, and offering the opportunity for public and private cultural institutions to share unpublished content and promote the exhibitions open in the city.
