The MAR-Miniera Argentata museum has opened in Sassari. This is the first open-air mining museum in augmented reality.

Enhancing the historical and identity memory of the former mining village ofArgentiera, creating the encounter between tradition and innovation, through an unprecedented and fascinating artistic path capable of engaging and exciting: this is one of the main goals of MAR-Miniera Argentiera, the first open-air mining museum in augmented reality, supported by the Municipality of Sassari in collaboration with LandWorks and with the contribution of the Geominerario, Historical and Environmental Park of Sardinia, the “culturability” call for proposals promoted by Fondazione Unipolis, the Foundation of Sardinia and realized by LandWorks Plus (LW+) and Bepart partners.

On Saturday, July 27, Sunday, July 28 and Monday, July 29, the inauguration and tour Open mar: three days to accompany visitors to discover Argentiera, one of the greatest examples of mining archaeology in Sardinia, recognized by Unesco as a world heritage site, guided by LandWorks, which curated the permanent memory installation at the Laveria and conceived with Bepart, the first edition of Argentiera in Augmented Reality, the artist residency for the production of augmented reality installations.

The winners of the competition are Francesco Clerici, Adolfo Di Molfetta, Milena Tipaldo and Andrea Zucchetti, the first four digital artists who resided at Argentiera investigating the theme of the relationship between memory, man and technology and created physical works in paste up art and digital animation with the active involvement of the local community.

Open mar is an initiative that combines historical and mining memory with the artistic exploration offered by technological innovations in the discovery of a “liquid and open museum” that puts public and private, closed and open spaces in dialogue through an ever-developing, ever-increasing exhibition design, combining knowledge, culture and entertainment through new emotional paths in a unique and highly distinctive experience.

The itinerary starts with a visit to the permanent exhibition in the old Laveria, and the historical narrative of the former mining village, and continues winding through the main buildings and old ruins of the hamlet, populated with art installations, memories of yesterday and today about the mine, visible to the human eye thanks to the technology of the Bepart app, which can be downloaded for free on one’s smarthpone. Those who wish to participate will be able to become the protagonist of the SOStieni l’Argentiera installation, a large participatory public artwork supporting the LandWorks Plus township regeneration project, on Monday 29.
