Coming to Turin, from Nov. 27, 2024 to Feb. 23, 2025, is KLIMT - The Gold Experience, an immersive, multisensory event staged at the Promotrice delle Belle Arti, in Valentino Park, curated by Next Exhibition in collaboration with Next Events and under the patronage of the Metropolitan City of Turin.
The initiative aims to celebrate the art of Gustav Klimt, an artist and father of the Viennese Secession famous for making gold the distinctive and unmistakable symbol of his style. Through the use of new technologies, walls, floors and every structural element of the room vanish to melt into a sea of gold. Thanks to videomapping technology and a system of high-definition projectors, famous masterpieces such as The Kiss, The Tree of Life, Hope, and The Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer literally welcome the audience inside, flooding them with light and embracing them in a golden swirl. The video is played on a loop and can be viewed several times, from different points of view: standing or sitting in the room, becoming an integral part of the scenic picture, lulled by the soundtrack of classical music to enhance, even more, the immersive experience. “The opportunities given by generative AI in the artistic field are endless,” explains Federico Morgantini, founder of MORGHY.AI. “These include the possibility of interpreting modern themes with the poetics and graphic traits of the great artists of the past. Here we use Klimt’s poetics to interpret aspects of love that were still taboo in the artist’s time, such as homosexuality, interraciality, polyamory and physical peculiarities.”
The exhibition will be divided into six main sections. A timeline dedicated to Klimt will guide the public to discover the most significant events in his life and work, revealing how he became the leading exponent of the Viennese Secession. There will be lightboxes reproducing Klimt’s most iconic works in large formats, ideal for photographing and sharing. In this regard, a specific area will be reserved for “selfie opportunities”: the organizers invite visitors to immortalize the experience and share it on social media, using the exhibition’s official channels.
Included in the admission ticket, the virtual reality tour, developed with Metrohive, will offer the opportunity to see the world through Klimt’s eyes. A digital journey will allow visitors to explore the landscapes that inspired some of his most famous works.
In the educational workshop, adults and children will be able to express their creativity by making works inspired by Klimt, following a tutorial dedicated to the creation of The Tree of Life. The drawings can be completed during the visit or continued at home. Just as the works of art are transformed into projections and videomapping, the intellectual stimulation offered by the exhibition also intends to transcend the time limit of the visit, accompanying participants in their daily lives.
“We are certain,” declare the management of Next Events, “that a revolutionary like Klimt would have appreciated the possibility of embracing the viewer with his art, of making it come alive by breaking the textures of the canvas. The videomapping presented in the exhibition traces all the different artistic phases, with a focus on the Golden Age, full of magic and enchantment. We have designed an exhibition itinerary that allows the visitor to emotionally understand Klimt in all his nuances as a painter and as a man.”
Hours: Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sunday and holidays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Closed Mondays.
