The 2024 edition of the International Restoration Exhibition also enjoys the patronage of the Ministry of Culture, which will be present at the event with its own institutional area. The Ministry’s space will offer workshops, children’s laboratories and in-depth sessions to enhance operators’ knowledge and skills. The conference will pay particular attention to the relationship between restoration and environmental sustainability, promoting practices and methodologies that respect the environment and use eco-friendly materials. Thanks to the partnership with Assorestauro and collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation - ICE Agency, Restauro 2024 is set to host 50 international delegates from 16 countries on May 15 and 16: Albania, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Jordan, Iran, Israel, Kosovo, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Mozambique, the United States, Turkey, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. Nations that show a growing attention to the recovery of their cultural heritage’and that look to Italy as a center of excellence for products, services, technologies related to the world of restoration and conservation of cultural heritage. Assorestauro has planned meetings directly at construction sites, with the aim of facilitating the exchange of knowledge between Italian restoration experts and their international counterparts.

The Restoration Week 2024 program includes visits to places not normally accessible to visitors.
It will start in Lombardy, with the construction sites of Milan Cathedral and Castello Sforzesco, and then continue to the Scuderie di Montel near San Siro. The route will continue in Emilia-Romagna, where international exchange activities will be carried out within the pavilions of Restauro 2024 and where exceptional openings are planned. The final stop will be in Crevalcore, near Bologna, to explore the reconstruction site of the Teatro Comunale. A significant participation and program that will help create together with the numerous B2B meetings with exhibitors and a specially created networking platform, important opportunities for growth, aimed at making Restoration and Restoration Week more and more a center of ideas, comparisons and connections.

A number of specific Restoration 2024 initiatives are narrowly focused. In particular, the calendar includes in-depth studies on post-earthquake reconstruction in Turkey and ongoing conflict reconstruction in Ukraine, coordinated by ICE Agenzia and Assorestauro: two opportunities to reflect on the centrality of art and its restoration even in extreme contexts and situations. Not only universal heritage, but a necessary and irreplaceable way of restarting for the populations and countries involved. Instead, it will be the Emilia-Romagna Region that will organize a series of activities on the future challenges of conservation, aimed at enhancing the local cultural heritage, offering professionals and the public the opportunity to learn about the artistic and historical excellence of the territory. Among workshops and meetings, the participation of the Emilia-Romagna Region will help enrich and consolidate the role of the Fair as a reference point in the international cultural and artistic scene. Archeolog ETS will be entrusted with the task of presenting the new Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Culture, aimed at restoring, preserving and enhancing archaeological sites and artifacts found during the construction and maintenance of rail and road works.

A strategic partner of the exhibition, Assorestauro, the Italian Association for Architectural, Artistic and Urban Restoration, will help enrich the Ferrara event with a high-level conference program. The space will be enlivened by the presence of Assorestauro member companies that will bring to the fair products and the best practice of an industry committed to the rehabilitation of buildings of historical and cultural value and composed of small and large professionals who constitute a unique model in the world. Murals and graffiti, canvas cleaning and plaster work, as well as technology, visors and augmented reality in restoration sites: this and much more will be covered by Formedil with the collaboration and participation of 12 building schools coming from all over Italy. The authoritative schedule of meetings and initiatives, a reflection of the issues and solutions revolving around the sector, will be the focus of the XXIXth edition of the show. Crucial issues will be addressed, from the digitization of cultural heritage to new emergencies, such as earthquakes and climate change, via the strategic importance of energy sustainability. Prominent among the confirmed initiatives are the panel discussions on scenarios and perspectives of restoration in the Third Millennium and the conference on Made in Italy restoration, its prospects for the future and its significant ability to influence international trends and customs. Equally central was the international conference on the state of the art of Restoration in Italy and Europe. The 2024 edition of the Salone also has in store the meeting dedicated to the Restituzioni project, in which, through the accounts of the restorers involved, the outcomes of some of the interventions carried out in the latest editions of the restoration program curated and managed for over thirty years by Intesa Sanpaolo, in collaboration with the MIC and the ministerial bodies in charge of safeguarding national heritage works will be presented.

Restauro - Salone Internazionale dei Beni Culturali e Ambientali is organized by Ferrara Expo, a BolognaFiere Group company, in collaboration with Assorestauro and with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and ICE - Agency for the promotion abroad and internationalization of Italian companies.
