In Lodi, on the left bank of the Adda River, the Vegetal Cathedral was inaugurated, a work designed by Lodi artist Giuliano Mauri, a sculptor of art in nature who died in 2009.
A vegetal architecture consisting of 108 “columns” of oak trees to form five naves; work on the Cathedral began in May 2016 and it was inaugurated yesterday, April 23, 2017, in the presence of Philippe Daverio.
The project is curated by Francesca Regorda, the artist’s granddaughter, and coordinated by Mauri’s children with support from the City of Lodi and the Lombardy Region.
The Lodi Vegetal Cathedral is not the only vegetal cathedral designed by Art in Nature artist Giuliano Mauri: in 2001 he created one as part of Arte Sella in the municipality of Borgo Valsugana (Trento) and a second one in the Orobie Park (Bergamo).
For Giuliano Mauri, the Cathedral represents anidea of magnificence, a brotherhood between place and the sacredness of the earth in order to recover a deep dialogue with places and nature.
