Kicking off in Venice, in the spaces of the Scuola Grande della Misericordia, from June 16 to November 22, 2018, is the multimedia event Magister Canova, entirely dedicated to the genius of Antonio Canova (Possagno, 1757 - Venice, 1822). Conceived by Cose Belle d’Italia Media Entertainment and produced in collaboration with the Canova Gypsotheca Foundation and the Antonio Canova Museum in Possagno, the event aims to blend spectacle and insight, emotion and knowledge. “Here,” says Renato Saporito, managing director and creative supervisor of the project, "a spectacular multimedia path awaits visitors, bringing them closer to the Canova story, in all its phases and aspects. In Magister Canova, the absolute scientific rigor of the narrative is combined with skillful direction, resorting to a plurality of languages. To propose a narrative path ranging from the micro to the macro, from the butterfly of Cupid and Psyche to the giant Hercules hurling Lica, passing from dance to the timeless beauty of Pauline Borghese."
The multimedia itinerary consists of different areas of in-depth study that take the audience to explore the entire biographical and artistic story of Antonio Canova, told through the narrative voice of Adriano Giannini, who is also entrusted with the task of reading some of the young Canova’s letters. Magister Canova is also accompanied by rooms focusing on some aspects of Canova’s art, such as the original drawings with an anatomical subject or an in-depth look at the sculptor’s creative process: all this is completed by a site-specific contemporary art installation created by Fabrizio Plessi, who has conceived a “tribute” to Canova aimed at symbolizing the journey through the artist’s mind.
Magister Canova is curated by Mario Guderzo, Director of the Antonio Canova Gypsotheca and Museum in Possagno, Member of the Committee for the National Edition of the Works of Antonio Canova and of the Scientific Committee of CAM (Catalogo dell’Arte Moderna Italiana), and by Giuliano Pisani, Classical Philologist and Art Historian, Galilean Academician, Member of the Committee of Guarantors for the Promotion of Classical Culture of MIUR.
