From October 5-7, 2018, Montepulciano is dedicating three days of studies and meetings on the preservation and history of art to Federico Zeri, 20 years after his death.

From October 5 to 7, 2018, the initiative"In the Sign of Zeri 2018. Conversations on the Protection and History of Art": three days of studies and meetings dedicated to the great art historian Federico Zeri on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of his death.

The meetings, promoted by the Montepulciano Municipal Administration, the Crociani Civic Art Gallery Museum, the Sienese Museums Foundation and the Federico Zeri Foundation of Bologna, will be held by Tomaso Montanari, Sandro Cappelletto, Andrea Bacchi, Alessandro Angelini, Mauro Natale and Anna Ottani Cavina.



Friday, October 5, will start with a conversation on the relationship of 20th-century art historians with the problems of protection and Zeri’s commitment to the defense of the historical-artistic heritage held by Tomaso Montanari; in the evening there will be a meeting on painted music, on the images of feeling, with Montanari and music historian, Sandro Cappelletto.

On Saturday, Oct. 6, Andrea Bacchi, of the University of Bologna and director of the Zeri Foundation of the University of Bologna where Zeri’s library and famous photo library are preserved, will recall Zeri’s working method starting with the tools of investigation, while Alessandro Angelini, of the University of Siena, will review Zeri’s vast work on Sienese painting. In the evening, Mauro Natale, of the University of Geneva, will give a talk on Federico Zeri’s main studies.

On Sunday, October 7, Anna Ottani Cavina, an art historian from the University of Bologna, will talk about the great art historian’s work, travels, friendships and readings.

The initiative will conclude with a documentary testimony projected on the screen of the Poliziano Theater: the interview made to Zeri in 1993 by the great French art historian Pierre Rosenberg, former director of the Louvre Museum, for the publisher Umberto Allemandi.
