After the success of past editions, a new edition of MUS.ENGLISH, the English course for children held in the city’s museums, is starting in Florence for the new school year. The Florentine Civic Museums and MUS.E, in collaboration with English Florence, are thus offering two cycles of ten appointments each to learn English while discovering art.
The first cycle will begin on the morning of Saturday, October 12, and will conclude on Saturday, December 21, 2019, for a duration of ten meetings based in Palazzo Vecchio. The appointments will be held inside its halls and will start precisely from the paintings, sculptures and history of the city’s most important palace, alternating thematic itineraries and art workshops: the cycle will thus allow people to relive the atmosphere of the Medici court and mingle among the characters of the past, imagining themselves to be princes and princesses and exploring their characters and habits.
The second cycle, on the other hand, will begin on the morning of Saturday, January 11 and end on Saturday, March 14, 2020; the venue will be the Museo Novecento and again there are ten appointments scheduled: here the works and poetics of the artists chronologically closest to us, rich in stimuli and content, will arouse the curiosity and creativity of the participants for a language learning that is intended to be unprecedented and engaging. The languages and techniques of the arts of the 20th century will be the starting point for a series of animated paths and creative ateliers by young artists.
The MUS.ENGLISH proposal is based oninterdisciplinarity and intends to offer young participants the opportunity to combine English language learning with the museum experience. From a linguistic point of view, the courses will allow children to express themselves, acquiring a basic vocabulary and the main grammatical forms, but also to improve their understanding and pronunciation of the language, while from a cultural point of view, the little ones will have the opportunity to assimilate the lineaments of ancient and recent history and art in a participatory form, thanks to animated paths and workshops.
A certificate of participation will be given to each child at the end of each cycle. The cost of the course (1 cycle = 10 lessons) is 100 euros. For those who participate in both cycles, the cost is 180 euros. To define a homogeneous group and promote effective learning, the lessons will be separated by age groups: at 10 a.m. children ages 6 and 7 will be able to participate, and at 11:30 a.m. children ages 8 to 10. A full schedule is available on the MUS. E website.
