It will be held from February 11 to 19, 2023 in Modena the edition number XXXVI of Modenantiquaria, the international event dedicated to high antiques, which as usual will occupy the spaces of ModenaFiere. The goal is to further improve on last year’s excellent result, which was, as ModenaFiere General Manager Marco Momoli said, “an edition of true excellence that brought many of the best Italian galleries and some excellent international galleries to Modena.” Modenantiquaria, sponsored by theAssociazione Antiquari d’Italia and the Federazione Italiana Mercanti d’Arte (FIMA), is in fact one of the main reference events for fine antiques and over the years has established itself as a meeting point for collectors, enthusiasts and art dealers looking for masterpieces. The exhibition is a showcase for many of the best-known and most important galleries in the sector, which often exhibit works that are also unpublished. The quality and value of the works on display, in addition to the prestige of the galleries, is further guaranteed and certified by the vetting committee, composed of internationally accredited art historians who examine all exhibits before the exhibition opens.
"To paraphrase a famous phrase by Italo Calvino, an antique never finishes saying what it has to say," says Pietro Cantore, President of Antiquari Modenesi and Treasurer of the Associazione Antiquari d’Italia. “That is why I am convinced that the antiques market and Modenantiquaria will continue to be very successful. This exhibition is an important opportunity to continue the dialogue with collectors, especially those of the new generation.”
In addition, this edition will also host, on Feb. 13 and 14, the 4th Antiques Conference “Antiquarian Future,” organized by FIMA. FIMA is the member organization of Confcommercio - Imprese per l’Italia that brings together the provincial and regional associations of the Italian antiquarian world: its purpose is to defend the interests of the art trade, dialoguing with public and private institutions and administrations in order to address and define artistic, entrepreneurial, social and economic issues on behalf of the entire category.
The conference aims to focus attention on the figure of the Italian antiquarian in the art market in Europe. During the two days of work, the problems of the sector related to the trade of antique works in Italy and in Europe will be explored in order to sensitize the Institutions towards a rebalancing of the regulations in European countries to guarantee operators the same market conditions. To clarify the overall picture, representatives of European federations in the sector will be called to take part in the conference. The Fourth Antiquarian Conference is a follow-up to those held in 1997 in Siena, 2000 in Bologna and 2012 in Milan.
Again, after last year’s success, at Modenantiquaria the public will be able to rediscover the space dedicated to sculpture: SCULPTURA, Italian Masterpieces from the 13th to the 20th century, in fact consolidates its goal of becoming a reference appointment for collectors and enthusiasts of the sector. This year, thanks to the support of the Associazione Antiquari d’Italia, the project will present a wider and more prestigious selection of works, in an “emotional and evocative” (so in a note) scenario that will accompany the visitor in the path and in the purchases of unique pieces.
Also returning as a collateral event is the Petra space, which, in a new and scenic setting of more than 3,000 square meters, offers solutions of all types, tastes and sizes to those who want to furnish, design, or renovate a garden, farmhouse or second home. Leading galleries offer visitors customized exterior design solutions among works, ideas and materials of the best quality.
Many galleries that will exhibit works at Modenantiquaria already confirmed some names such as Enrico Gallerie d’Arte, Secol-Art, Iotti Antichità, Galleria Romigioli, Copetti Antiquari, Antichità Giglio, Cantore Galleria Antiquaria, Fondantico di Tiziana Sassoli, Tornabuoni Arte, Butterfly Institute, Galleria Marletta, Studiolo di Stefano e Guido Cribiori, Mearini Fine Art, Caiati Old Masters, Mirco Cattai, 800/900 Art Studio, Antichità La Pieve, Antichità Giglio, Arcuti Fine Art, Galleria le Due Torri.
