From July 31 to August 4, 2019, five films of great Russian cinema will be screened in the Uffizi Square filmarena. The initiative is part of the Russian Summer Nights festival, curated by the Center of International Film Festivals and Programs in Moscow and N.I.C.E. festival, which will be presented by the director of the Uffizi Galleries Eike Schmidt and prominent directors, actors, producers and personalities of Russian cinematography.
“We welcome this review dedicated to Russian cinema, as well as all the directors, actors, producers and fans whom we also invite to visit our Gallery. After all, this is a welcome return after the exhibition we dedicated to Ejzenstejn in 2017. Indeed, there is a tradition of the Uffizi being dedicated not only to the figurative arts, but also to the performing arts, and thus, historically to theatrical performances and more recently to cinematography. We should not forget that the Renaissance represented in the Uffizi collections, in addition to being an extraordinary reservoir of images, also becomes a weave and inspiration for many of the filmmakers we applaud today,” the director commented.
