The new Thomas Dane Gallery in Naples will open to the public on January 25.The five rooms of Casa Ruffo were chosen for the inaugural exhibition, which will be on view until March 24, 2018.
Each room has been dedicated to host the works of five different artists who have depicted the city of Naples or their idea of Naples.
The artists involved are Bruce Conner, Steve McQueen, Catherine Opie, Caragh Thuring and Kelley Walker.
Bruce Conner will bring his latest masterpiece"Easter Morning" from 2008, a re-adaptation to his 1966 film Easter Morning Raga.
Steve McQueen offers the 2007 film"Running Thunder," where a horse is seen lying on the grass; a kind of still life.
The works exhibited by Catherine Opie are a series of portraits on the theme of gender and identity, while those created by Caragh Thuring propose a recurring theme in her art, namely the volcano: there will be two new works, Day and Night, both from 2017.
Finally, Kelley Walker has created a new series of works specifically for the exhibition: using Andy Warhol and Joseph Beuys’ poster for their exhibition at Galleria Lucio Amelio as a starting point, Walker has reworked it by placing the image of the two artists and the lions of Martyrs’ Square side by side.
