From July 31 to August 2, the fourth edition of Milano MuseoCity. Many initiatives to discover the city's museums

From July 31 to August 2, 2020, the fourth edition of Milano MuseoCity, the three-day event aimed at raising awareness of Milan's museum heritage, will be held.

Milano MuseoCity, this year in its fourth edition, is back. The three-day event promoted by the City of Milan | Culture and carried out in collaboration with theMuseoCity Association aimed at raising awareness of Milan’s museum heritage will be held from July 31 to August 2, 2020. The initiative is part of Aria di Cultura, the summer schedule of cultural events in the Lombard capital.

The widespread event, which over the years has come to involve in the city and the metropolitan area more than eighty-five art museums, history museums, science museums, artist’s houses, archives and business museums, protagonists of meetings, exhibitions and events, usually sees the attendance in three days of about 80,000 people.
In addition, the public and private institutions involved in this edition will offer numerous digital initiatives.

Starting on Friday, July 31, the museums involved will open their doors to the public offering many events including guided tours, special openings and special initiatives, all sharing the theme of women protagonists. In fact, the fourth edition of Milano MuseoCity aims to highlight not only the talents of women artists, collectors and intellectuals, but also to highlight works in Milan’s museum collections that depict women.

TheMuseoCity Association also curates some of the most important special initiatives: the Museo Invisibile meeting, thanks to which museums have the opportunity to introduce themselves and tell their stories to the public, will be a podcast that will be available on MuseoCity’s social channels from July 31. From July 31 to August 2, the Secret Museum itinerary, curated by Gemma Sena Chiesa and dedicated to The Ladies of Museums, will be offered, allowing each participating institution to introduce one or more works from its collection inspired by the world of women in a very broad sense: from the woman depicted in art to female collectors and donors of works of art, from testimonies of the love for art of great female personalities to the attention devoted to equal opportunities in business and scientific collections. Then, on Saturday, August 1, the international conference Women and Innovation in the Contemporary Museum will be held, broadcast through videos uploaded on the Association’s Youtube channel: a public debate dedicated to the best practices of all those women committed to changing the common perception of the museum, making it a welcoming and educational place for different audiences. The Invisible Museum podcast and videos of the international conference will also be available online after the three-day event.

In addition, this year’s edition will be enriched by Museo Diffuso, an itinerary to get to know the museums participating in Milano MuseoCity: anapp with all the information about the participating museums, the works of art on the facades of 20th-century Milanese buildings, and more than forty works of street art in augmented reality, granted by MAUA-Museo Arte Urbana Aumentata, to discover city itineraries outside the center and the ordinary art circuits. Among the Milanese buildings: Palazzo Castiglioni, in Corso Venezia, with sculptures by Ernesto Bazzaro; Palazzo dell’Informazione, in Piazza Cavour, with bas-reliefs by Sironi; and Palazzo Mezzanotte, in Piazza Affari, with sculptures by Leone Lodi and, inside, decorations by Gio Ponti.

The full program of initiatives will be available at www.museocity.it and at www.yesmilano.it.
