From Andy Warhol to the provocative Tvboy, Pop Art is on stage at Arte Genova

At the 2018 edition of Arte Genova, collector Eugenio Falcioni brings some pop art works, from Andy Warhol's masterpieces to Tvboy's recent provocations.

Among the proposals to be marked within the new edition of Arte Genova, scheduled at the Blue Pavilion of the Fairgrounds from Feb. 16 to 19, that of collector Eugenio Falcioni stands out for the interest it arouses: Falcioni, in particular, will bring to Genoa a nucleus of his pop art collection (his collection is, in this sense, one of the main ones in Italy). Thus, works by Andy Warhol (Pittsburgh, 1928 - New York, 1987) will be on view in Genoa, including the celebrated MArilyn of 1967 and Campbell’s Soup of 1962, works that consecrated the genius and myth of the great American artist.

In addition to Andy Warhol’s silkscreens, it will then be possible to admire the works of Mimmo Rotella (Catanzaro, 1918 - Milan, 2006), whose birth centenary falls this year: the artist will be honored with rare retro d’affiches and décollages from the early 1960s that contextualize Mimmo Rotella in the context of Nouveau Realisme. Alongside these works, an overpainting and décollage on three-meter sheet metal, previously exhibited in Milan at the Palazzo Reale, and works from more recent eras will also be on view at Arte Genova.

Finally, there will be works by Tvboy (real name Salvatore Benintende, Palermo, 1980), an internationally renowned Italian street artist who stands as one of the heirs of pop art, having assimilated the messages of mass culture and reproposing them according to his own critical judgment. Some of his works, which have already appeared on the streets of Barcelona, Rome and Milan, will be shown at Arte Genova in their screen-printed versions: among them, the kiss between Pope Francis and Donald Trump, which will be exhibited alongside an unpublished work yet to be revealed.
