On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci’s death, MUS.E and theUNESCO office of the City of Florence are proposing a series of city itineraries on Leonardo’s traces for 2019. The calendar of the initiative will kick off on March 10: from the dwelling on Via delle Prestanze, now Via dei Gondi, to the gilded copper sphere for the Cathedral, to which he collaborated in the workshop at Verrocchio (so much so that he wrote to himself, many years later, “remember the soldering with which the ball of Santa Maria del Fiore was soldered”), to the Basilica of SS. Annunziata, where Florentines, in the spring of 1501, flocked to admire his marvelous cartoon of St. Anne with Mary and Child Jesus.
The appointments, in collaboration with Unicoop Firenze, will be free of charge and will be held once a month, on Sunday mornings, on the following dates: March 10, April 14, May 12, Sept. 8, Oct. 13, and Nov. 10, at 10 and 11:30 a.m.
The guided tours will take participants to discover the links between the great genius and the city of Florence, retracing the steps that Leonardo took on a daily basis during his years in the city: in fact, the relationships with the urban fabric in which the artist grew up and lived will be highlighted, offering the possibility of relating his thought and work to a precise context of reference and also highlighting new places and aspects of the Florentine historic center.
The tours will always start from the Palazzo Vecchio Museum and will last 1h15.
Free participation, reservations required.
