From March 15 to June 2, 2025, the Cathedral of the Image in Florence will host a new immersive exhibition dedicated to the master of Fauvism, Henri Matisse. Inside Matisse - Immersive Exhibition is the world’s first immersive exhibition on the French artist that will take the public on a journey through Matisse’s life and work, revealing the revolutionary aspect of his art, and through form and color, the true protagonists of his language.
Considered one of the most important artists of the 20th century and a pioneer of Fauvism, Matisse left an indelible imprint on the world art scene. His continuous artistic research led him to explore new techniques and expressive languages. In the last years of his life, despite physical difficulties that confined him to a wheelchair, he developed the technique of " cut-outs," cutouts, which represent the pinnacle of his quest for formal and chromatic perfection. Inside Matisse will offer the opportunity to explore this evolution up close. Each day visitors will be able to immerse themselves in a360-degree experience that will last 35 minutes, including images, lights, colors and music. An immersive sensory journey that will allow visitors to “step inside” Matisse’s vibrant paintings.
On the occasion of the exhibition, the projectors inside the large immersive room were also completely renovated, allowing the public to appreciate even more the high-resolution images projected on the walls.
To complete the immersive experience, the Cathedral of the Image is also launching a collaboration with Stride, a young Florentine company specializing in software development that has come up with SketchArt: an experience that uses artificial intelligence to transform a simple sketch into a work of art inspired by the style of Matisse. At the end of the experience, it will be possible to take home a piece of the exhibition, in both digital and physical versions.
Collaboration continues with Opera Laboratori, which is responsible for reception services, and Livorno-based Sillabe Publishing House, which runs the bookshop.
Tickets for the exhibition are available at the physical ticket office of the Cathedral of the Image and online at Vivaticket’s website.
Hours: Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
