In Florence, Palazzo Vecchio opens its doors to rooms usually inaccessible to the public: seven free guided tours from December to June to discover, thanks to the collaboration with theAssociation of Friends of Florentine Museums and Monuments, the historic rooms of Baron Bettino Ricasoli ’s apartment and the halls of Firenze Capitale and Sala Rossa. The visits, which will take place over seven appointments between December 2024 and June 2025, will provide access to these rooms now used as municipal offices, such as those of Deputy Mayor Paola Galgani and the rooms named Firenze Capitale, where the City Council offices are now located.
The spaces in which the apartment of Baron Bettino Ricasoli, Governor of Tuscany, was built in 1860 will be open to visitors.
Tours will be conducted by volunteers from the Friends of Florentine Museums and Monuments Association and will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. on Dec. 4, 2024, Jan. 8, Feb. 5, March 5, April 2, May 7 and June 4, 2025. Admission is free, but reservations must be made at 055286465 or segreteria@amicideimusei.it
“Being able to visit places in the Municipal Palace that are not part of the museum itinerary but are rich in charm and history is an extraordinary opportunity to enter the heart of the Palace and get to know its lesser-known corners,” said Culture Councillor Giovanni Bettarini. “For this reason, we wanted to repropose a calendar of events offering the opportunity to explore the political history of Florence through these often little-known rooms. Thanks to the volunteers of the Friends of Museum Monuments who support us in our efforts to make history accessible to citizens, so as to create a valuable link between Florence’s past and present, especially in the younger generations. Thanks also to Deputy Mayor Paola Galgani and City Council President Cosimo Guccione for their cooperation.”
