Florence, migrant rescues photographed by Massimo Sestini on permanent display at Mandela Forum

As of Feb. 12, 2019, Massimo Sestini's shots depicting migrant rescues in the Mediterranean are on display in a permanent exhibition at the Mandela Forum.

From February 12, 2019, the Nelson Mandela Forum will be enriched with a permanent photography exhibition of the works of Massimo Sestini (Prato, 1963), one of the best-known and most appreciated Italian photojournalists, winner in 2015 of the second prize ( General News category) at the World Press Photo, the world’s most important award in the field of photojournalism. The exhibition is titled Mediterraneum - The Right to Hope, Shots from the Sea and exhibits fourteen photos, printed in extra-large format (5x3 and 3x2), backlit and placed at the entrance of the facility: these are shots taken during the Italian Navy’s migrant rescue operations, including the very famous photograph taken on June 7, 2014, which depicts, from above, a boat crowded with migrants (this is the shot with which Sestini won the World Press Photo).

The initiative concludes the year of activities that the Nelson Mandela Forum Association has dedicated to the centenary of Nelson Mandela’s birth.
