Florence Cathedral becomes a Lego work that can be visited at the Museo dell'Opera

A 17-year-old boy has designed a Lego model of Florence Cathedral: it will be made on Oct. 21.

It will be composed of 20,000 bricks, in 400 different shapes and 10 colors, from different countries around the world and collected by enthusiasts and collectors: it is the Lego brick version of the Florence Cathedral and Baptistery, which will be built for the first time in a large model (150 x 60 x 65 cm) on Saturday, October 21, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, and will then remain on display until November 9. After that, it will be displayed at the Bricks in Florence Festival on Nov. 11 and 12 at Obi Hall.

The model was designed by a 17-year-old boy, Giacinto Consiglio, and members, Lego enthusiasts, of the AFOL (Adult FAN of LEGO®) group ToscanaBricks and the ItLUG - Italian LEGO Users Group ToscanaBricks and ItLUG - Italian LEGO Users Group association will build it. “Looking at our Cathedral through LEGO with a universal language that unites fans from all over the world regardless of age and culture,” said Luca Bagnoli, president of the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore, “represents a unique experience, the realization of a work through a game.”

The story of the model is very romantic: in fact, Giacinto Consiglio visited Florence for the first time in 2014, was struck by its beauty and, as a Lego brick enthusiast, designed a first model on the computer and went to great lengths to make it: his dream thus came true.
