The dates for the next edition, the thirty-first, of the Florence Biennale Internazionale dell’Antiquariato, one of the world’s most prestigious events dedicated to ancient art, have been announced: from September 21 to 29, 2019, as usual at the Palazzo Corsini venue in the Tuscan capital. The announcement came from the Biennale’s secretary general, Fabrizio Moretti, who will once again lead the event. The preview for collectors, exhibitors and authorities will be held on Friday, September 20.
The Florence Biennale, the first antiques exhibition in the world, with 2019 celebrates its first sixty years of activity: in fact, it was 1959 when Mario and Giuseppe Bellini gathered around the project of an Italian antiques event an important number of Italian and foreign gallery owners. The sixtieth is therefore an important milestone that will deserve celebrations in the city, starting also with a greater involvement of economic and cultural realities, to confirm once again Florence as the center of the international art market.
BIAF will take place in the precious Baroque rooms of Palazzo Corsini on the Arno, where the best international antiquarian tradition will be represented but with increasing attention to modern and contemporary art. For two weeks Florence will host a careful selection of antique and modern art dealers from all over the world, who with their precious works, brought together in what is recognized by many as the “most beautiful venue for an Art Fair,” will offer a broad overview of the Italian art tradition in the world.
The works-paintings, sculptures, drawings, furniture, objets d’art and antique books, all rigorously created by Italian masters or foreign artists who have worked in Italy-will be subjected to a careful analysis by the Vetting Committee, an authoritative and internationally esteemed group of experts to guarantee collectors and institutions the highest possible security. Alongside the Biennale will be, for the third time, AXA XL Art & Lifestyle, which has chosen to strengthen its support and collaboration with the event perceived as unique in the panorama of world fairs.
