The 11th edition of Centrale Festival opened in Fano on Friday, June 7, 2019, in the presence of authorities, Marcello Sparaventi (president of theCentrale Fotografia Association) and Luca Panaro (artistic director of Centrale Festival 11).
During its first 10 years, the Centrale Fotografia festival has welcomed several Italian artists already established within the international art scene and presented them to the public through an intense program of debates, conferences and round tables. The locations of the exhibitions set up have strongly characterized the exhibition programming, involving in particular some of Fano’s historical spaces, such as the Rocca Malatestiana, which has become one of the symbolic places of the event.
With the eleventh edition, the formula is renewed and changes starting with the name, which now acquires the denominative of Festival. In addition, starting this year, Centrale Festival turns to young international artists selected through open calls, thus underscoring the desire to broaden interest and pursue emerging research in close connection with the contemporary. Applications arrived from every region ofItaly and many from abroad: Albania, China, Korea, the Philippines, France, Greece, England, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, the United States, and Turkey.
Proposals were viewed by a selection committee composed of Irene Guandalini (independent curator and researcher), Claudia Löffelholz (head of the Fondazione Modena Arti Visive - Fondazione Fotografia School of Higher Education), Marco Paltrinieri (member of the Discipula art collective), Monica Poggi ( Chippendale Studio coordinator), Matilde Scaramellini & Elena Vaninetti (curatorial duo Twenty14 Contemporary).
The selection resulted in five exhibitions curated directly by the members of the committee ( Open Call section), and these were joined by two exhibitions generated respectively by training courses on the image ( School section), plus an exhibition organized by the Central Photography Association of Fano ( Memo section).
