Fall release of "Loving Vincent," the first animated film about van Gogh

Loving Vincent, the animated film based entirely on the works of Vincent van Gogh (Zundert, 1853 - Auvers-sur-Oise, 1890), will be released this fall: paintings created by more than 125 artists, who used a painting technique similar to that of the great Dutch artist, come to life to tell the story of van Gogh. Each frame was hand-painted: for the team, led by authors Hugh Welchman and Dorota Kobiela of Breakthru Productions, making the film took four years. Theworld premiere was held last June 13 at the Annecy Film Festival in Annecy, France, while the premiere will take place on October 19 at Cinemec in Ede, Netherlands, not far from the Kröller-Müller Museum, which houses several of van Gogh’s works.

Parallel to the release of Loving Vincent, there will be several events accompanying it: at the Het Noordbrabants Museum in Den Bosch, for example, there will be an exhibition of the same name(Loving Vincent: de tentoonstelling), which will illustrate the stages of making the film. Paintings made especially for the film will also be on display, the methods of making them. A weekend of typical cuisine and music is also planned in Ede for the premiere (there will be a concert by the leading Dutch harpist, Lavina Meijer).
