On Sunday, September 2, 2018, at 9 p.m. at the Scuola Grande della Misericordia in Venice, anexclusive concert by Giovanni Sollima (Palermo, 1962) will be held as part of Magister Canova, the first multimedia exhibition dedicated to Antonio Canova.
On the occasion of Magister Canova, Sollima has composed a musical narrative that merges with the narration of the exhibition’s scientific curators: the interpretation of the latter is up to Adriano Giannini.
The music composed by the artist was inspired by the images and the narrative about Canova.
Giovanni Sollima said, "The cello is physicality, it is form, a sinuous structure that becomes one with the person playing it. I was happy to approach Canova and his intense and Apollonian classicism. The concert"The Sculpted Sound“ will be an opportunity to develop live the music I composed for Magister Canova, leaving it free to interact in the beautiful surrounding space. Along with the pieces composed for the exhibition, I will also play pieces by composers close to the time of Canova and Luigi Boccherini.”
The concert will take place in the ground-floor spaces of the Scuola Grande della Misericordia that house Fabrizio Plessi’s monumental installation, from which the exhibition route begins.
