DeltArte - the delta of creativity, the annual traveling festival that takes place in various venues and is dedicated to urban art, in close connection with the territory and in particular the Po Delta, where the locations hosting the event are located, is back. For nine years, the festival has been promoting the regeneration of urban suburbs through their enhancement by means of the colorful works of national and international artists. Also, this year, thanks to the works created, an open-air diffuse museum was created to be experienced year-round, unrestricted and Covid free.
There are numerous novelties in this edition: the first concerns the lead association of the project, which is Art Flood, composed of 90 percent women from the art world. The second novelty is the new website, which will be online from April 25, combined with the digital identity. As every year, the selected artists are invited to confront a common theme: the importance of collective historical memory declined in the various territorial realities that host the event. The first municipalities involved in the rich calendar, currently being defined, are Rosolina, Lendinara, Loreo, Taglio di Po, Adria, Porto Tolle, and Villadose.
Opening the kermesse is Rosolina, which has endorsed and supported DeltArte since its inception in 2013 and has welcomed internationally renowned artists such as Hitnes, DEM and Lucamaleonte. This year’s featured artist is RAME 13, a Tuscan artist well known in the national street art and illustration scene. In order to make past and present, historical memory and contemporary art, dialogue, a specific place has been intercepted: Villaggio Norge Polesine, created to house the inhabitants displaced by the 1951 flood. This neighborhood is the fruit of history and, above all, of collective solidarity, as it was created thanks to the help of the Norge people after the dramatic events of the flood, which affected the entire Polesine, all the way to the sea.
Tells RAME 13: “I did not know this area before and I was really very impressed by its history, especially the great solidarity that revived it after the flood. Despite such a hard trial for its inhabitants, the neighborhood managed to be reborn and start again, thanks to the help of the Norwegian people and the great determination of the community.”
Curator Melania Ruggini comments, “At this difficult time for the whole world, given by the pandemic and social distancing, it is most important to bring to light such an example of humanity, which sends a message of hope and rebirth for us all.” The street art work was designed for the main wall of the former elementary school as a tribute to the alumni of that time and an invitation to the younger generation to reclaim their neighborhood and enliven it through creativity and associationism.
The festival continues with the return of artist Alessandra Carloni who will create her mural in the municipality of Lendinara, at the Istituto Comprensivo, combined with an educational workshop with the third classes of the middle school. The work The Journey of Adolfo is dedicated to a writer native to the area, Adolfo Rossi. In 1879 he left Polesine bound for New York, where he began working as a journalist. Upon his return to Italy he was widely appreciated as a correspondent and special envoy. This mural is therefore dedicated to all those who had to leave their families and their country to seek fortune and work elsewhere, bringing the example of those who made it, realizing their dreams. Explains Melania Ruggini, “People need to return to believing in their own desires, and the 9th edition intends to send positive messages of hope, especially for young people. The artistic performance by Alessandra Carloni aims to highlight the importance of the journey as a moment and opportunity for change and realization of one’s goals.”
In May the festival will touch three other municipalities in the province of Rovigo: Loreo with artist C0110, Taglio di Po with Giusy Guerriero and Adria with Manuela Merlo, while in June it will move to the sea, to Scardovari, in the municipality of Porto Tolle, with a tribute to the economic excellence of the Po Delta, fishing.
The DeltArte organization would like to thank the institutional parters: the Veneto Region, the Province of Rovigo; the municipalities of Adria, Lendinara, Loreo, Porto Tolle, Rosolina, Taglio di Po, and Villadose; the summer centers and municipal schools of the municipalities involved; Azienda Tecnoverde of Villadose; Radio Diva FM; and the ART FLOOD Association.
