Dantedì returns: a hundred initiatives throughout Italy to celebrate the Supreme Poet

There are about a hundred initiatives organized or supported throughout the country to celebrate Dantedì, the national day dedicated to the Supreme Poet. The initiative is now in its third year.

"Once again this year there are many initiatives promoted throughout Italy to celebrate Dantedì, with adhesions growing by the hour for this third edition of the national day dedicated to the Supreme Poet," Culture Minister Dario Franceschini said on the eve of Dantedì 2022. " Dante Alighieri’s work, with its universal values, manages to speak to us in difficult times like the ones we are living, with words capable of expressing in an effective and immediate way, although seven centuries later, situations that we never thought we could relive. Dante today is more relevant than ever, and it is good to continue to cultivate and attend to him."

The third edition of this day, established in 2020 at the proposal of the minister himself, currently sees about a hundred initiatives organized or supported throughout the country directly by the Ministry of Culture or the National Committee for the Seven Hundredth Anniversary of Dante Alighieri’s Birth. From comic books to cinema, from exhibitions to readings.

From the screening for students in L’Aquila of the film Dante and Beatrice, a 1913 film by Mario Caserini restored in 2007, to the evocative Dante’s Journey between ancient and contemporary at the National Archaeological Museum in Muro Lucano; from the presentation of the Philippine Codex of the Divine Comedy preserved at the Girolamini Library by the students of the I.S.I.S. “Caruso” of Naples to the FumettoDANTEca of the Fummettoteca regionale Alessandro Callegate “Calle” of Forlì, an exclusive and innovative library of comics dedicated to the work of the Supreme Poet; from the presentation of a valuable German edition of the Divine Comedy published around 1870 and preserved at the State Archives of Gorizia to the Dantedì live at the Pantheon, with a live session by five students of the Roman School of Comics who will take turns at the easel to give their own comic interpretation of Dante’s work; from Dante’s Gleams in the Writings of Rodolfo Benini at the State Library of Cremona to Dante’s readings at the State Archaeological Museum of Cingoli; from Dante’s Ulysses Trial at the State University Library of Turin to the exhibition of the copy of the Divine Comedy owned by Giuseppe Garibaldi at the Garibaldi Compendium of Caprera; from Dante’s Public Uses and Abuses at the State Archives of Palermo to theexhibition of Andrea del Castagno’s fresco of Dante’s portrait at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence; from Dante’s workshop for children Quanto sa di sal lo pane altrui at the Villa del Colle del Cardinale to How Dante Meets Julius Caesar at the Museo Nazionale Concordiese in Portogruaro.
