From September 19 to 22, 2019, the Lugano Exhibition Center will host the fourth edition of WopArt - Work on Paper Fair, an international fair dedicated to works of art on paper. Since 2016 the fair has welcomed more and more adhesions from national and international galleries: in fact, this year WopArt will be developed for the first time on 7000 square meters and 102 exhibitors from 16 countries from all over the world will participate; moreover, the galleries ’ space will be divided into four sections and there will be seven collateral exhibitions, as well as a rich program of events and talks.
New this year is the technical-organizational collaboration of BolognaFiere Spa Group and Alberto Rusconi, an internationally renowned entrepreneur and collector.
As stated, the galleries will be divided into four sections:
- MAIN COURSE, curated by Paolo Manazza and Mimmo di Marzio, will present 43 galleries, in turn divided into Modern, Contemporary and Old Masters;
- EMERGENT will present youthful galleries with international projects and artists;
- DIALOGUES, curated by Luca Zuccala, will feature projects selected by the participating curators and galleries;
- PROJECT SPACE, curated by Marco Roberto Marelli with the support of Chiara Spiaggiari, will present the International Laser Print Show project in which important project spaces from all over the world will participate, selected by Dario Moalli in collaboration with a team of international curators: Lucia Aspesi, Lorenzo Balbi, Giulia Colletti and Fiammetta Griccioli.
Another novelty of this edition is the possibility for all exhibitors to present within their booth up to three works on a non-paper support, giving priority, however, to paintings, objects or sculptures with their preparatory sketch on paper.
In addition, a 1,000-square-meter space, called Culture Square, will be designated for publicentertainment with spaces for exhibitions, cultural meetings and discussions, children’s workshops, restaurants and relaxation areas.
Seven side exhibitions will be organized during WopArt:
- At the Origin of Paper: Five Papyri from the Egyptian Museum in Florence, an exhibition that will deal with the tena of the history of paper and writing by showing for the first time in Lugano five papyri on loan from the Egyptian Museum in Florence;
- Louis Pericles (1916-2001). The Alchemist Painter, where an unpublished core of works on paper by the Swiss artist will be presented;
- The visionary realism of Andrey Esionov, which will exhibit a world premiere of ten watercolors by the artist, a master of contemporary Russian figurative art;
- Courtesy of Clifford chance - Arcus Pride Art Exhibition , Milan, 2019 will allow visitors to visit the famous law firm’s exhibition in support of the LGBT+ community;
- I AM will present the work of six young and talented artists confronting technique, light, color, matter, fullness and emptiness;
- five sculptures from Dalí’s The Soft Clocks series will be exhibited inside the VIP Lounge;
- the talk area will feature installations by fashion photographer Bob Krieger with a series of works selected from the artist’s private collection. The LOVE exhibition represents an excursus into the imagination of one of the protagonists of Italian fashion in the world.
And again, there will be meetings with artists, gallery owners, collectors and industry professionals held by Mimmo Di Marzio and Luca Zuccala: Conversation will address three themes, such as The Democracy of Paper, The Biodiversity of Paper and The Flavours of Paper.
