On Oct. 26, 2023, the Egyptian Museum of Turin officially kicked off celebrations to mark the 200th anniversary of the museum’s founding in this 2024. For this occasion, the museum lands for the first time in cinema with Men and Gods. The Wonders of the Egyptian Museum, the event film that premiered at the 41st Turin Film Festival, available in Italian theaters for two days only, March 12 and 13.
Produced by 3D Produzioni, Nexo Digital and Sky in collaboration with the Egyptian Museum and directed by Michele Mally, who signs the subject with Matteo Moneta, author of the screenplay, the film features the extraordinary participation of Oscar winner Jeremy Irons, who guides us on a journey to discover the treasures of one of the most fascinating civilizations in ancient history. The Egyptian Museum in Turin, with more than one million visitors in 2023, is the oldest in the world dedicated to the ancient Egyptian civilization. Its collection includes 40,000 artifacts, 12,000 of which are displayed on 4 floors of the museum. Among the exhibits are sphinxes, colossal statues, small amulets and sarcophagi, which tell nearly 4,000 years of ancient history. Among the world-famous exhibits are the Papyrus of Kings, the only surviving list tracing the succession of pharaohs, and the Papyrus of Mines, one of the oldest known geographical maps. Among the most famous sculptures are the statue of the priest Anen, that of Ramesses II, and that of the so-called Isis of Coptic, as well as the sumptuous grave goods of Kha, superintendent of the construction of the pharaohs’ tombs, and his wife Merit, who are among the protagonists of this extraordinary historical narrative.

The museum boasts an extensive network of more than 90 scientific collaborations with major world museum institutions, including the Louvre in Paris, the British Museum in London, and the Ägyptisches Museum in Berlin. In fact, its collections have a dual nature: antiquarian, stemming from the collecting of Bernardino Drovetti (Barbania, 1776 - Turin, 1852), a Piedmontese diplomat, and archaeological, linked to the excavation campaigns in Egypt promoted by Ernesto Schiaparelli (Occhieppo Inferiore, 1865 - Turin, 1928) and Giulio Farina (Rome, 1889 - Turin, 1947) in the early 20th century.
