Coming to Italian and world cinemas February 19-21, 2018, is the new film about Caravaggio (Milan, 1571 - Porto Ercole, 1610) entitled Caravaggio. The Soul and the Blood, presented as “an exciting and restless journey through the life, works and torments of Caravaggio.” The film is one of the first Italian productions to be made in 8K (a format that, the production assures, “allows us to perceive the single brushstroke and grasp details of the works that are not visible to the naked eye”) and will be distributed by Nexo Digital, the company now famous for its “art” films.
The operation, produced by Sky and Magnitudo Film (artistic direction by Cosetta Lagani, executive producer Francesco Invernizzi, screenplay by Laura Allievi and direction by Jesus Garces Lambert), will first be released in theaters and then will also be televised on Sky. The film will trace Caravaggio’s life through the places where he lived and where his best-known works are preserved (Milan, Florence, Rome, Naples, Malta): an actor will lend the voice to the painter so that he himself can lead viewers into his universe. The scientific consluence has been entrusted to art historian Claudio Strinati, who has given his support for historical research and the study of documents and testimonies.
