At the Colosseum Archaeological Park, the appointment At the slopes of the Palatine returns. Goethe’s Walk: guided tours, every Friday from July 5 to August 30, 2019, during the evocative hours of sunset. Tours last 90 minutes, in shifts in Italian and English.
A green walk through more than 2,000 years of history. Along the route, the close relationship between the archaeological remains and the naturalistic context is illustrated, bringing to life the spirit that had animated the walks of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe during his Italian Journey. A different way to narrate the myth of Rome’s foundation, the history and use of the ancient architectures that have come down to us, their perception in the Romantic age and the relationship with the extraordinary botanical heritage of the Palatine.
The entrance, from Via di San Gregorio, leads directly to the beginning of the route, along the monumental Severian Arches, to continue to such fascinating places as the Paedagogium, where imperial slaves were instructed, and the Scalae Caci, linked to the cult of origins; after skirting the slopes of the Palatine below the Domus Tiberiana, we cross the Horrea Agrippiana, grain warehouses from the Augustan age, the last stop before reaching the exit on Via della Consolazione.
