Rome officially turns 2776 years old today (making the date 753 B.C.): in fact, the Christmas of Rome is celebrated today, and for its birthday it offers special events, exhibitions, meetings, guided tours and shows. Several spaces in the city are involved, and for the occasion free admission to the civic museums of Roma Capitale (including exhibitions) and the archaeological area of Circus Maximus.
Among this year’s main events is the exhibition at the Capitoline Museums until October 1, 2023, for the first time, of the precious fragment of ancient golden glass with the personification of Rome, found during the excavations of Metro C/ Porta Metronia station. The exhibition, realized by the Capitoline Superintendence in collaboration with the Special Superintendence of Rome Archaeology Fine Arts and Landscape, represents an extraordinary opportunity for the public of the Capitoline Museums to be able to admire a piece of great importance from the historical-artistic point of view and with a strong symbolic value. Also to be inaugurated will be the restored fountain of the goddess Rome in the Capitol, whose work was directed by the Capitoline Superintendence and made possible thanks to the act of patronage of the fashion maison Laura Biagiotti with Intesa Sanpaolo. And again, the Capital offers guided tours of the Opera House, Roman poetry by the Poeti der Trullo group recited at the Teatro India, reenactments by the Gruppo Storico Romano at the Circus Maximus amid rituals, gladiatorial ludiatories and everyday moments of the ancient Urbe.
Christmas in Rome, which lasts a total of several days, is promoted by Roma Capitale (Assessorato alla Cultura, Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali), Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma and Teatro di Roma - Teatro Nazionale, in collaboration with the Soprintendenza Speciale di Roma Archeologia Belle Arti e Paesaggio and Gruppo Storico Romano.
